they taste rather well as time goes by

Some juices need to steep. It may take days and sometimes weeks or months. Also, sometimes the flavoring needed can be as high as 20%. You need to check and see what the recommended % is for your flavors.
Are you using a single flavor or more?
Are you using an ejuice calculator? If not, try eJuice Me Up - Best eJuice Calculator

Need a little more info.

What flavors are you mixing and what are you storing your newly create e juice in? Some flavors can eat away at certain plastic containers. This will make the e juice taste like plastic.

here is a site i use for recipes, and also it will help calculate amounts:

this forum just doesn't like this site. take out the stars for real url:

Check out the TFA Thread here
There are quite a few good recipes there using TFA flavors, and there are a lot of very helpful people over there.
Don't know why your juice is getting a plastic-like flavor though... that's just odd. I do mix at about 30% flavoring in most of my mixes though...

Ty I wonder if what I'm tasting is pg/vg because not enough flavoring

Could be... flavor strengths vary, some you need 10-15%, others 2-3%.... you just have to play with the numbers to find what works for your tastes.
I know that I struggled with DIY for quite a while and finally gave up. Then I found the thread that I linked you to above, and I'm saving tons of money on juice now. There are a few recipes in my blog link in my profile, but there are tons on the TFA board... check it out and good luck, Charlie!

anyone know a good rule of thumb for capella flavoring percentage to use?

Not really, as I haven't used Cap's yet. I have heard some pretty good things about a few of their flavors though.
I'd still stick with use multiple flavors to build depth of the flavor profile. Vanillas and creams are always good to add to pretty much any fruit flavor. Definitely do not rule out adding sweetener either. Ethyl Maltol is a great one, and is often used as cotton candy flavor in many vape juices. I add that to most of my mixes... in small amounts of 2-3%
Best advice though is to make small batches, take lots of notes, and have fun! I typically try 5-10% when testing a new flavor of anything :2c:
