Keep 2 tanks; one tank with the higher nicotine, and only take an occassional puff on that one, while using the lower strength tank as your main.

that's what I do, that "Throat pain" is probably the nicotine that "throat hit" I hate it, take the same juice (Ed vapes and his is 18mg and mine's 12 or 6 in some cases and it's too harsh for me in an 18mg )

play with your PG ratios or eliminate PG entirely, I use mostly 100% VG when I've vaped a lot on the 50/50 ones I have a "froggy throat" but I keep a stonger one for in the mornings iwth coffee, or if I"m running about and can only take a couple hits here and there...

Definitely some good advice, I don't know if this has been said before but with vaping and especially the style of tank you are using that doesn't have much airflow(air intake) mouth to lung inhales seem better. I work at a B&M vape shop and alot of first timers have this problem with harshness and choking, telling them to do mouth to lung has helped alot. Also Nic content and pg to vg ratio (VG is smoother, less throat hit) certain flavorings( I find sour citrus flavors to be harsh) all play a role in the throat hit.
good luck
