Unfortunately, and I may have come across a little to stern, but as you seem to know, there is a level of respect one should have for Vapes, and anything else with a Li-ion battery. Some take it to an extreme, but others do things that make people like mooch rethink their ratings systems.

I think your concerns were valid, and erring on the side of caution is usually the wise move in life, irrespective of the activity.

You weren’t too stern at all. Everyone here has been great! I respect vapes, but I found myself starting to get nervous because of some of the things I was reading on another forum. Realizing I had made some mistakes scared me too. I was going to box up the new mod and stick to pod systems.

I would vape it at low wattage, like 20 watts (that would pull 5 amps from the battery), and then feel the batteries after like 4 drags. Feeling temperature with your hand isn't scientific, but it can be enough to know whether the batteries are being stressed. If they feel hot or even very warm after vaping at 20w, chuck 'em and get LG, Sony, or Samsung cells.

Squonking is litterally the best thing about vaping, but I could be biased...

New squonkers

Right now I’m going to learn everything about regulated mods. When I’m a master I’m going to need a new challenge - perhaps squonking.

I don’t actually know any other vapers so having people to talk to that are patient and interested in vaping is fantastic. The guys at the vape shop are great, but I can only chat with them so much before i feel like a weirdo.

Ugh...Too late. I vaped with them at 35, 45, and 50. I think they will be okay, but I’m getting some of the recommended ones tomorrow.

I was nervous about it, but I used it and I really like it. I bought the kit so it’s the one that came with it (Alpha tank?).

What started all my worries was reading about vaping on other forums. I did not realize you shouldn’t charge via USB. Just found that out yesterday and I’ve been doing that with my voo poo for the past month. Then I bought batteries without researching. I researched how to use them safely, but not which to buy. Scared me and I started really doubting vaping with mods. Thought I knew what I was doing and finding out I was making potentially dangerous mistakes freaked me completely out.

Definitely going to lay off the other forums. There are cool people on them, but there are some that are intimidating and some that I think are just trying to scare people.
Charging in a regulated device isn't dangerous but it is better for both device and batteries to charge externally. If you're out and don't have a spare set it doesn't hurt to charge internally occasionally. Just mark your batteries to keep the pairs married. Very few mods have true internal balanced charging capabilities. That's why we generally charge externally.

If they didn't get hot at that wattage, then I would assume they're this battery that Mooch reviewed, BUT yea, I'd still go the recommended route.

HohmLife 36.3A 3077mAh 18650 Bench Test Results...only a 20A- battery but a great one, equal to HG2

I won't buy anything but LG, Sony, or Samsung at this point because I think that any other company selling cells are just buying defective cells (or cells that didn't pass their QC testing) from LG, Sony, or Samsung at discount and re-wrapping them with their weird named brand.

Hohmtech batteries aren't re-wraps if genuine. They are having them specifically made for vape sale. As long as they are genuine he should be okay using them. They are actually good batteries. I have used them and still have a few around.

This a link to Baditude's blogs about batteries and other handy info for newer vaper's. Don't stress to much if you don't understand some of it first read through. There are lots of people here that can help you figure out what might confuse you.

I didn't know that and that's good to hear. I dig their website too. It's informative and nice lookin'. Hell, their batteries seem high quality after reading their website.

Damn, they're expensive though!

What is the problem with charging via USB?

The biggest us wear on the port.
Also, charging circuitry in a dedicated charger has the advantage of not being micronized, and the cells can be better air cooled.
I'm sure there are other examples, but those are good enough for me.

Been looking at those discount Luna's, wondering how much I'd need to polish to post to shinyitius...
If something that low budget even qualifies.

I haven’t polished any of mine. They sure look nice that way though. I just have too many other things I have to do. Maybe one day this winter...

Wear and tear in the port is part of it, but also unbalanced charging can shorten battery life.

I feel this way... I use an external charger, and my ports stay pristine, my batteries charge safely, and I save that port to use in a pinch.

+1 on their marketing strategy. They are good batteries. The only problem I have with HohmWork and HolmLife batteries is the company over-rates their specifications, specifically the amp rating or continuous discharge rate. Why must companies use the "pulse discharge rating" instead of using the industry standard of the "continuous discharge rating"? The pulse rating is useless.

HohmWork 40.6A 2531mAh 18650 Bench Test Results...only a 20A battery but great, better than HE2

Charging external (removable) batteries in a dedicated charger is generally preferred over charging via microUSB. Charging in a dedicated charger box is safer and faster, and you can monitor battery temperature by touch. If you charge dual batteries (like with the Aegis Legend) in the mod, unless the chip is a DNA by Evolv the batteries probably won't charge equally. There will also be unneccessary wear and tear on the fragile input/output of the USB port. The primary purpose of the USB is for firmware upgrades of the chip from your computer. Charging via USB should be limited to emergency situations when you don't have access to a dedicated box charger.

Mooch say charging via microUSB is not dangerous, but agrees with all of the above recommendations that external battery charging is preferred.
