[h=1]10 Ways You Could Be Damaging the vaping Movement[/h]
Homeecig oped → 10 Ways You Could Be Damaging the vaping Movement

There are a lot of people in this industry fighting hard to ensure that ecigs come out on top and strike a win against big tobacco, legislation and regulatory agencies. Unfortunately, some vapers have let manners and etiquette go out the window. If you don’t follow some basic rules of ecig etiquette, you end up doing more harm than good. Here are ten ways you could be slowing the progress in the fight for our right to vape, and what you should do to avoid them.
[h=2]1. You treat your Ecig like a fog machine[/h]When it comes to ecig vapor, bigger isn’t always better. As electronic cigarette technology advances, we have seen a lot of vapers go crazy with over the top mods. Rookie vapers view the huge vapor clouds as the ultimate ecig experience and they can’t wait to explore the powerful atomizers that create monster clouds. However, the average non-smoker is going to be super annoyed if you are constantly blowing out massive waves of vapor.
Don’t treat your ecig like a fog machine. Use it responsibly around others and consider how other people might feel when you are vaping in public.
[h=2]2. You vape in the theater[/h]If you were a non-smoker/non-vaper, imagine how it would feel to pay for a movie only to find yourself behind an inconsiderate ecig user. Even if nonsmokers are okay with vaping, they are likely to get frustrated when your vapor clouds roll up and obstruct their view. Not to mention that taste (and smell) can be subjective. You might very well enjoy what you’re vaping, but even a stealth vape will share a bit of smell with those around you.
Be considerate and step outside for a quick puff, or just hold off until the end of the film.
[h=2]3. You vape at your kid’s school[/h]When you go for parent teacher conferences or PTA meetings, refuse the urge to pull out your ecig and take a puff, even if things get stressful. Schools have a strict no smoking policy and even though your ecig is technically smoke-free, it still projects a bad image to children.
Vaping on school premises is a recipe for disaster and it’s the kind of dangerous behavior that will get ecigs totally banned from public areas in your city.
[h=2]4. You fake a bathroom break and vape on the toilet[/h]This is actually a pretty common thing for new e-cig users. When you get that nicotine craving, you don’t want to draw attention by vaping in the so you duck into the bathroom and vape while you pretend to do your business. There are a couple of problems with this. First of all, if you are in a public restroom and people walk in, they could be alarmed by the huge cloud of vapor hanging in the air. Second, you might raise suspicions when you end up visiting the bathroom way more than usual. Eventually people will catch on and may get the wrong idea. There have been numerous stories shared by Reddit users who were called to the carpet by HR or management because an assumption was made that they were using drugs or smoking.
If you need to use your ecig, ask if it’s allowed in the workplace or just step outside.
[h=2]5. You continue the dual use of cigarettes and vaping[/h]When you first start using electronic cigarettes, dual-use is pretty common. As you are making the transition from smoking to vaping, you might slip up and smoke a cigarette once in awhile. That’s totally normal. Make a goal to eliminate the cigarettes and stick to that goal like glue with the help of vaping.
We know it’s not easy to give up cigarettes, but dual use mixed with the old habits of lighting up as soon as you get outside, or into your car, can tie the two products together in the minds of non-smokers/non-vapers. The industry is working hard to separate ecigs from tobacco to avoid harsh taxes and legislation – you can do your part by crushing out the cigarettes and switching to vaping for good.
[h=2]6. You are condescending and rude to smokers[/h]Don’t act like you are better than smokers. Most vapers started there, and you were likely one of them. Just because you made the switch to e-cigarettes doesn’t mean you’re superior. While you might passionately disagree with their choice to continue using tobacco, you won’t convert anyone to ecigs by talking down to them. A little kindness can go a long way in showing people that ecigs are a good alternative.
[h=2]7. You act like an ecig evangelist[/h]It’s awesome that you are pumped about vaping, but don’t act like you’re selling religion door to door when it comes to your favorite brand or even the industry. You will quickly become annoying and everyone will avoid you. Feel free to tell your friends about your choice to vape when they ask about it. Share information and be prepared to back your claims with research. However, don’t go over the top and treat your ecig habit like a political campaign.
There is no need to constantly bash smokers on social media or to hound your friends night and day to try ecigs. No one likes a zealot.
[h=2]8. You’re an irresponsible vaper… or just a bad person in general[/h]This can take a lot of forms and depends on the type of person you are.

  • Not using child-resistant caps on convenience bottles you purchase and use (and not keeping them out of reach of children)
  • Not cleaning up wire clippings in public areas
  • Leaving empty bottles laying around or discarding them in public
  • Throwing out disposable ecigs like people toss away cigarette butts in public
  • Stealing of any kind
  • You openly support underage vaping, whether it’s 0mg or not
  • You build for uber clouds with no consideration of battery safety
  • You post video product reviews or vaping videos with no consideration for how your overall appearance or what you say will make the industry look overall
[h=2]9. You blow vapor in someone’s face[/h]Please – for the love of all that is good and tobacco-free – do NOT blow your ecig vapor in someone’s face. This is giving electronic cigarettes such a bad reputation. We’ve seen it on social media on more than one occasion. People are venting about inconsiderate ecig users that puff on their ecigs and then blow the vapor at the person they are talking to. Even though the vapor hasn’t shown to be as dangerous as second hand smoke, it is still offensive when someone blows it straight in your face.
Turn your head and exhale in the other direction so you don’t offend people around you and/or hold the vapor in to diminish the exhaled cloud considerably.
[h=2]10. You vape freely in restaurants, bars and wherever the hell you want[/h]We get it; vaping isn’t smoking. That doesn’t mean you can act like an entitled jerk and vape wherever you want, whenever you want. It takes very little effort to ask the owner or manager of a business “hey, am I allowed to vape/use my ecig here?”
In the past 5 months I’ve asked this question in six different restaurants ranging from a Hooters to a Fogo De Chao. Four said yes, one restaurant told me that I could, but I had to do it in the seating area on their outdoor patio, and only one said that I could not.
Don’t walk through shopping centers, retail outlets or sit in restaurants chugging away like a steam locomotive unless you have permission – and even then, be courteous about it. There are other people around you that don’t share your affinity for the peanut butter melon juice you’re vaping. Acting entitled like it’s right to do whatever you want, whenever you want, is how vapers get pigeonholed as smokers and stuck on the curb.
You don’t have to be an outspoken activist to help in the fight against big tobacco, legislation and appropriate regulations. Just be a responsible vaper.
