I just read the other day that cellucotton doesn't expand like cotton/hemp, it actually contracts so you have to kinda overfill the coil wraps with rayon but cut the bulkiness out of the tails. Cotton is opposite, it has to slide back and forth with very little friction and keep the tails fluffed.
I take the rayon and juice it up and push it up against the back of the deck, making sure all is out of the threads way, put the tube thingy on, with tweezers lightly pinch the wick over the juice channel then with a dental tool or something thin I ream out the juice channel so its open and fluff the wicking.
I also before final assembly of the top cap take a Qtip with isoprop clean the top of the cap and oring to be sure there is a good seal, if its going to leak its going to be from that oring not sealing. I ordered a couple of the Fasttech quartz tank kits to find out that the chimney is 3/4mm shorter than the tobeco chimney so it doesn't quite reach the oring in the topcap thus poor vacuum and leaks badly when filling from the bottom.

I do agree with shallow juice channels, I tried to drill mine bigger with limited success but I did make them a tad deeper.
I just rewicked my kayfun bout hour ago and overfilled the coil with rayon (1.3ohm-4.5 volts) and having some might fine vapes...yup its gonna work for me.

I was having intermittent dry hit problems with my Russian 91%. Never really figured out exactly what was wrong, but I started lubing up my o-rings with VG so they the caps would screw on nice and smoothly and I think it helped seal things up. I also was being cautious about over-wicking and I think I was actually not using enough wick. About that time, I also switched to Japanese cotton, which made it very easy to get the perfect amount of wick.

Every once in a while, I'll cover the air hole and take a puff, watching for a small air bubble to rise in the tank, that way I know I'm drawing juice up to the wick.

One or more of those things solved my problem, I haven't had a dry hit in months.

Hi Folks! I'd like to get some thoughts on a wicking problem with my Kayfun lite v2. Let me first mention that its a clone, I mean a clone of a clone - a real knockoff. I wrapped a micro coil to 1.7ohm using 28ga and positioned it about 2mm above the air hole. I watched several videos and read quite a few forums on various wicking methods. Being mindful of the amount of wick I'm using, I tried pulling both ends of the wick up through the chimney base and trimming just above, and tucking the wick down. I also tried trimming the wick so it just touches the deck right on top behind the juice channel.

After several attempts with both cotton and rayon I continue to get dry hits after 5-8 good draws. No leaking or flooding problems just the dry hits. Primer puffs seem to help a bit and if I let it sit for a while it vapes great for another 5-8 draws. I'm running this on a regulated device as low as 3.6v with no success. Juice is off the shelf, Space Jam 50/50. Feel like I followed instruction to the letter and running out of ideas.

Appreciate any thoughts you may have. Thanks.

Some pics of your build and build deck would be helpful.

What is the ID of your coil? I would recommend 2mm+. Small coil equates to a small wick that may not keep up. A kayfun should have no problem with 50/50. Space Jam is one of my favorites. :)

Assuming the coil is large enough, you may be overwicking it and blocking the juice channels. The "bunny ear" method you describe is all I use and don't have dry hit issues with any of my kayfuns. With the cotton dry, I slowly tuck the tails down working from the outside in. Then once it's down, gently work the cotton towards the coil deck just a bit to make sure the liquid channel isn't blocked. After that I prime the wick and assemble.

If that is all well and good, it may have a problem with the liquid channels. Where did your clone come from?

Thanks for all the help. I wrapped the coil on a 3/32 bit. Strange thing...I picked it up last, covered the air hole and took a hard draw. Vaped the tank at 4.4v without a single dry hit. Refilled it this morning and I'm getting more dry hits. I think its either over filled or there is a vacuum/flow issue. I'm filling it so it just covers the window.

I picked up the clone at a local shop. They asked that I let them know if I get it working okay :)

With my Kayfun, I basically got dry hits after every refill. It was the EhPro clone of the lite plus v1, and it was especially bad with cotton. Switching to rayon, I didn't really have that problem.

Coil size is good and it seems like you are filling it correctly, which only leaves wicking technique/amount or poorly machined liquid channels.

I did pick up a (giant) box of Rayon from Sally's Beauty supply last night, and I must say.......IT'S AWESOME and may be worth a try. $15 for a lifetime supply.
