Help! What am I doing wrong?

I am using a DSE901 and I keep killing atomizers... My first atty lasted about 2 to 3 weeks but since then I haven't had one last longer than 5 or 6 days. I clean them out in the evenings by setting it on a wad of rolled up paper towel to suck the old juice out. I used to blow them out but stopped after that killed one. I had another one overheat tonight and die so I'm watching my use and stopping after the atty gets warm but that happens after about 5 hits. Really starting to get frustrated with the whole deal. I've got another atty on order from a different store to rule out that I'm getting bad attys. Just hoping it gets here before my last atty goes because I really don't want to go back to smoking analogs. If anyone has some helpful advice I'd love to hear it. Thanks!

I would stop draining my atty for one thing. your atty needs to remain wet when you use it. If you arent priming it before the first use each day you may be running it almost dry. might be just enough to overheat and kill it. not sure if that's the case but just a thought.

for another, just my opinion, i'd choose another PV rather than the 901.

your vaping experience is going to depend on the hardware you use.

there are many ecigs out there that have longer battery life.

Sounds like youre running your attys dry. keep your carts topped off often.

good luck!

If you are not drying them out, then maybe you just have a couple that weren't going to give you more than a week out of them. The state of the art of atty's isn't stable.

I turn mine upside down each night just so the the juice doesn't sit in there. Although I don't know if that really does anything.

Also, after a few top offs, I remove the atty and blow through it and dry the connection points with a paper towel. Although I don't know if that really does anything.

One thing I did is that I ordered 25 atty's, not just one (some places you can get them for under $5 each in bulk). Even if you go through 1/week, it's still cheaper than regular smokes.

What I do know, is that you should always have back up hardware in addition to your back up hardware for your back up hardware.

in addition to the things suggested/asked here already:

I think it might be possible to over clean them.

also are you possibly accidentally being a bit rough with them when you do?
(I tend to move very gingerly and carefully around the little mesh mound in my atomizers, seems like it wouldn't take anything at all to just get one little minuscule wire of that mesh or something just out of place enough to screw them up and I'd never see it), be extra careful if you're putting a Kleenex or Q-tip up around them etc.
Don't be too hard on them, they seem like really delicate little things.

I don't know where your atomizers came from or if this is your situation (and I hope not) but I also think its very possible to just get really poor quality made ones (I hate to say this but I'm starting to think possibly the ton of them I got from a place at a low cost, especially or at least for this one particular model of e-cig I've got that's different from yours just might be really poorly made super crappy atomizers that I maybe should not expect to work well or last long at all, where I thought it was a good deal but maybe sometimes you only get what you pay for)

In other threads and I don't know now to what models this might apply or if to all of them, but I've also seen people mention a sort of over-vaping, a sort of not giving the atomizer enough of a chance between heavy vapings to wick more liquid up from a catridge, etc.

Don't give up on your 901 atomizers too quickly. I had one that simply quit producing vapor so I put it aside and tried it every day to see if it wasn't having a better day. After about two weeks it up and started working great. I have no idea why it seemed dead for so long but I didn't do one thing to make it revive except to blow out the atty once or twice, I just mainly left it alone until it decided to start vaping again. I'm stumped but happy it's working again. Maybe it was flooded and took that long to dry out? I don't think so but who knows.

Thank you to everyone that has replied so far.

I guess I don't know for sure that they are dead, I haven't been checking them electrically. The one that stopped working yesterday quit working while I was using it, I gave it a few minutes to cool down and I tried to use it again, nothing. I'll start keeping the old ones around to see if they come back to life.

I've only been vaping a little over a month but I'm enjoying it. Hopefully I'll get this figured out. Maybe my first atty was just a fluke, the only reason I questioned it was because I was reading on here how some people had attys that lasted months, some that even were still using their first attys. I used to not clean them every night but after a couple of days it got harder to draw air through them.

I picked the 901 for my first ecig because it generally got good reviews on here and being new to vaping I didn't want to go out on a limb my first time or spend a great deal of money on a starter kit when I wasn't even sure I'd like vaping.

I'll pick up a multimeter so I can make sure they're dead before tossing them.

If you think I should switch to a different model what do you recommend?

Could your batteries be over heating the atty and burning them out faster???

Using ohms law I = V/R if your voltage is constant at 3.7v and your resitance is something normal, it would be impossible to over heat your atty, with normal use. So you can't nesicary blame it on batteries, and testing will anser that question.

Could your batteries be over heating the atty and burning them out faster???

Have you tried using different batteries, are you using a passthrough ??

Good luck

now that's a thought I hadn't had, one that now I wonder if it applies to me..

going to hijack this thread here for just a minute here:
I have a now thoroughly dead 801 atomizer (was getting really hot really fast and leaking and acting weird after about a week, tried to salvage it by doing a daring vodka/everclear soak on it, thought I'd saved it since it was working pretty good for about a day but now its dead, no vape at all).. and I'm on an 801 passthrough.. that getting really warm right away thing has me wondering if maybe my passthrough/belkin hub combination might be the culprit. none of my 801 attomizers seem to be acting too healthy to be honest (and they are the ones I've been thinking might be junk I bought at junk price -- I guess either could be true)

I have been vaping for 2 months...... I know nothing about the science of batteries, or attomizers...... I rotate them...... I put the drops in the cart until it almost overfils and put 2 drops directly on the atomizer each time I use the E-Cig...... No batteries have gone bad...... No atomizers have gone bad..... I am using all the originals....... I bought all of my batteries and atomizers at Totally Wicked...... I buy the 5 packs to save some bucks.......
Was using the Titan 510 for the 1st month..... Now I got the GG Transformer 901 and the Silver Bullet 510 with the same results...... I use the 3.7 18650 and 2 3.0 cr123a's in my Mods...... I use them the same way I used my Titans....... And I pray.......
Have not had one battery or atomizer gone bad......

Thanks everyone for your help!

I'm vaping using 3 batteries that I rotate throughout the day. I don't have a pass through yet but plan to add one in the future. As one person suggested earlier I'm adjusting my vaping to make sure my cart is topped off and that I'm not running the atty dry. Other than that we'll see. I should have a new atty arriving tomorrow or wed from a different supplier and once I'm using that one I'll see how long it lasts. I smoked often when I was smoking analogs (1 about every 45 min to an hour) and I use my e cig about as much. Maybe I'm just using them up quick.

I have several 801s and I never let them get hot. I have 2-3 of them in rotation because I vape a lot. :D One gets warm, I set it down and swith to another one. Always 2-3 drops into the cart then 2-3 drops on the atty. Plumes of smoke. Never leaks either. I'm still using the ones I got 9/20/09. Haven't cleaned any of them yet because there's been no need.

I'm having trouble too with the 901 atomizer. My first one the heating coil fell down the battery casing and the wires broke. My 2nd one stopped working after 4 days and I think it might be the same problem -not sure. Just stopped
working all together.

Have you had this problem with the heating coil wires breaking? I'm very gentle with the atomizer - no dropping or hard thumps. Can't figure out what's wrong.
