You are obviously new around here.

You just asked a loaded question. :pop:

OK, I'll bite...

James, the politically correct answer to your question is: "Better" or "best" is very subjective. Everyone has different expectations in what they are looking for, including their perceived value vs cost.

The honest answer to your question is: "No mod is better than a Provari". In my opinion the Provari offers the most value for your money when all things are considered.

Now let the fireworks begin. :pop::pop:

any other opinion's?????
Folks might be a little tired of this question. A new thread of this type asking about if the Provari is better than this or that mod shows up here every week on schedule. That is the reason that I responded to your question as I did. So that might be why responses are slow...

I considered the Provari when I was looking to purchase. I decided to instead go with a SS ZMax due to the variable wattage versus the variable voltage. I have been happy with my purchase. It heats a wire the same as any mod out there and seems very well made...just not made in the US. The only thing I don't like about the ZMax, which would be the same with the Provari, is the one button menu instead of easily being able to adjust either voltage or wattage with the simple + or - buttons my old Lava tube had. I hate going into a menu just to adjust heat of the wire.

I love this question.... Provari is simply the rock solid super star of the VV world. I have a Gripper, Vamo and ZMax (always have back-ups for your back-ups - or buy new stuff if you like to play) but the Chinese PWM circuitry is simply not as consistent nor pleasant (IMHO) a vape (and yes I know Provari uses PWM but also know they have a secondary circuit to smooth the output wavelength so no Rattlesnake sound - what you set is what you get...). For what ever reason, the SmokTech built mods have a higher amp switch yet can only handle 1.2ohm+ where as the the Provari will run stuff down to 1.0ohm (only relevant if you're into RBA's).

Now that last point leads to my interpretation of what is "best". Hottest thing going (performance wise) is an Ultra LR Gennie on a 100% mech mod. If looking for VV, you can't go wrong with a Provari running normal "over the counter" heads.

I've had a Zmax and I liked it a lot. I wouldn't mind getting another one. But if it stops functioning properly next year, who do you send it to for repairs? ProVape will repair your Provari and even offer updates and upgrades for it. Lots of bonus points are included in the price you pay for a Provari.

Sorry, sometimes we get carried away. IMHO, best starter VV (just to get your feet wet) is something like a Vision Spinner 1300mAh. Price for pound the Vamo gives a ton of functionality (VV/VW/ohm meter/battery voltage, etc) and a decent vape for ~$40 on sale.

We understand. When talking about mods, and in particular the new variable voltage/variable wattage devices, there's a major point in contention. And that is in perceived value for the money.

The Provari was one of the first mods, if not THE first, to offer variable voltage. It was designed by ex-gaming computer programmers and ex-military computer programmers. They had a committment to make the best e-cigarette available regardless of cost, and to make it in the US with as much US made components as was possible. The materials and machining, the fit and finish of the device is second to none. The microprocessor which uses their patented Accuset Technology uses military grade components. It is one of the safest made e-cigs on the market. The company is noted for its fast and satisfying customer service, and will still repair any Provape device even after the warranty expires for a reasonable cost. The Provari has been the gold standard that all high-production e-cigs strive to surpass. The Provari is expensive, but their are reasons why this is so.

On the other hand, the Chinese mod makers make a cheaper product that may match or surpass what the Provari does, but the build quality is arguably less. They do not offer as long of a warranty as Provape does, and if their mods fail to function after the warranty, they can not be repaired...the owner is forced to buy new.

So, depending upon one's expectations of cost vs value is, you can buy cheap and replace every few months. Or, buy once and be confident that you will have a great mod that will work for years.

EDIT: I found and linked two articles concerning the creators of the Provari.

what is a LR Gennie and were do I find it

LR referes to low resistance. A Genesis style atomizer is one that you roll a stainless steel mesh wick and wrap your own heating coil with Kanthal or NiChrome wire (it's pretty advanced stuff). The ultra "LR" (low resistance) is when you wrap a coil that is sub 1.0ohm (I usually wrap ~0.8ohm).

I shouldn't have dumped this info on you if your just starting out (sorry). If you want to ask questions about LR/Gennie style atties, come over to the DID Thread (a great Gennie atty from MMVapors) and folks will answer questions all day: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/euro-suppliers/296166-new-genesis-type-atomizer-did.html

For your original question, I think the Provari is the top dog. They are built to last and can handle any normal cartomizer, atomizer, carto tank and even RBA's coiled to a normal LR standard (~1.5ohm). If you're on a budget there are some pretty decent contenders in Vamo, ZMax, etc.

Apologies James, my bad. I was just coming out of an advanced discussion area and mindlessly starting spewing advanced vaping techniques. Best idea is to get started with regular heads (carto tanks, Vivi Novas, etc) and once you've settled in on vaping and want to play RBA's (and Ultra LR) is a cool next step.

P.S. I still think the Provari is a great PV. Have had mine for about a year and it works and looks as good as the day I got it.
