So I upgraded from Volt Cigs, still use them outside home/office, to a Boge DCT and ego 650 mah battries. Life was awesome. Filled the tank with 3/4 Desert Ship and 1/4 cowboy red with 70/30 PG-VG ratio, 12 mg NIC and vapped away to glory for a day or so. No constant refills and charging, pretty darn good flavor.
Then the tank gets down to 1/4 or so and I get burnt taste. I don't get it as the holes are still more than covered but I say no problem. I fill it up again, waited for 30 minutes for it to soak all in and am still getting burnt taste. I have tried to prime it from top, waited another 2 hours, twirled, swirled, curled , you name it but am still getting burnt taste!
What is going on?

That is just one carto and your experience may or may not occur again. I had been using Smoktek dual coil tank replacement cartos in my tanks for a couple of months and seemed to get the same burnt taste a little too often. I switched to the single coils of the same brand and resistance and have not had any more of the occassional burnt taste. I also am getting the same flavor and vapor production with the single coils that I got with the duals. A moderate increase in battery duration, too, which is a plus.

I suspect that the top coil of the dual coil cartos sometimes doesn't get enough juice because of inadequate wicking of the polyfill and burns the paper material that covers the coils, or the polyfill itself. Being that the one coil in a single coil carto is located low in the cartomizer, it gets relatively bathed with juice and never causes the burnt taste.

I get mine here: http://www.smoktek.com/Single-Coil-XL-Tank-Cartomizer-for-the-SmokTank-XL_p_211.html
