Help with Chocolate in Chocolate recipes

I've read a lot about how hard it is to duplicate chocolate flavor in e liquids. I recently made a S'mores batch that tastes like the percentages are dead on, but it has a somewhat funny taste from the chocolate (I used dbl. chocolate by Cappella's). It's not bad by any means, just a little off. My wife tasted it and says she gets a hint of root beer in it, and I had a friend smell the liquid (S'mores) without telling him the flavor and his guess was root beer. The recipe has 2% dbl chocolate, 6% marshmallow and 7% graham cracker. I'm getting ready to try a peanut butter cup recipe, but don't want to end up with the same slightly funny taste from the chocolate. I have Cappella's Dbl. Chocolate, TPA Dbl. Chocolate and TPA Chocolate on hand. Has anyone found anything to add to chocolate recipes to get rid of the weird "fake" chocolate taste? Any suggestions?
