Help with coil

I just received my rba and built my first coil ever! I am a nervous wreck!! I did 10 wraps on a 1/16 drill bit, and it is showing as 1.4 ohms. I will have to practice on the squonking for sure, but I'm not getting the taste I should, I don't think. Can anyone tell by this shaky pic what could help that? Is that too low and should I have done more wraps? TIA

What were you using before? what ohms on what device and if regulated what settings? Also how is taste off, to cool, not enough throat hit, loss of flavor?

Just for grins try a 7 or 8 wrap coil and push it out farther away from the posts. The more you make the easier it gets.

Damn Filthy you are quick lol, nothing to add but I second moving closer to the edge/air hole.

I will try that when I get off work today. I was using a Vmod XL with the atomizer, so I have never built a coil. I use to use tanks with an MVP 2 till I went to the Vmod. The vapor is great, it's just I can't really taste the CLS on the inhale, just the out-hale sort of.

So just move it closer to the edge, away from the posts?

Yes you want to get the coil closer to the air hole. As you move it out the legs on the coil will get longer, this will raise it's ohms so taking a a few wraps off will counteract this. Also it's normal to go lower ohms with an RBA since you're getting better airflow. I'm trying to get you around 1.2 ohms.

Yes I tilt mine *just a hair* lower end towards the squonk hole too. Just a teeny smidgeon of a tilt though, because I like to keep my coil a little high and make sure it still wicks easily It may also be if you are using brand new cotton - it takes a little bit to me to get rid of the cottony taste.

Thanks Filthy-Beast! I will do another coil as soon as I get off work today and let you know. The RBA is a lot smaller than I thought too. I was shocked when I opened the package. It really puts out the vapor and is so easy to push the button. I am in awe right now and know I will love it!!

Looks like it could be a few things. Make sure your screws are tight, lower the coil and move it closer to the edge of the RM2, maybe too much cotton as in too thick, and the tails are too long. Deb, that looks like a BEAUTIFUL first coil. The only thing is, yeah, pull that coil out more toward the edge for maximum flavor, like this:




Of course, don't let it get THAT dirty (pic was to show how Boba's Bounty "destroys" my coil in a day, lol). But you get the idea. I even get the coil a smidge closer to the edge than that, but it took awhile to be "brave" enough to know that the coil isn't touching the cap and to trust my multimeter was telling me it was safe to fire up. CLS should be EXPLODING with flavor at around 1.4-1.6ohms (YMMV--but that's my sweet spot for it, yummy!).

+1 on what everyone said about moving it closer to the edge (but not touching the cap). I use silica, and I find better vapor and flavor, too, if you trim the ends of the wick to around 1/8th to 1/16th left outside the ends of the coil. It's counterintuitive (to me) that shortening the wick works better, but that's what I find.

I suggest Koh Gen Do cotton from sephora.com. After using CVS sterile rolled cotton for a year I find the KGD superior.

Thanks Hypatia. I tried moving it out and wrapped 7 coils of 28g around the 1/16 drill bit, it is now a 1.1. Filthy-Beast was wanting me to get to 1.2 so I should have done 8. But I call tell a big difference from the first coil. It is warmer with more of a TH and the taste is better. I will have to do another one before the day is over LOL. I'll get there! At least they're working and I haven't blown up anything, so I'm not giving up yet.

It took me a few tries to get them to exactly where I wanted, but now I have no problems and they work and taste just the way I want them. You'll get there in no time.

One of the things I was told when I got my 1st is that the closer to the deck the coil is you get more flavor and rasing it up gives you more throat hit. Once you figure out what you like and where you want it positioned it is gravy... the coils last and last. Dry burn the coil if it gets gunked up and keep on vaping!

Everyone is so helpful. I am really enjoying my new REO. The coil seems to be okay for now, I only have tanks and atties to compare it to, but at 1.2 closer to the edge the flavor has improved.

Now I need a little help with my bottle. I have to really squeeze hard on the bottle and I know that isn't right. I have loosened the cap to make sure it isn't screwed in too tight, but not helping. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you cut an inverted "V" in the bottom of the tube to make sure it doesn't suction to the bottom of the bottle?
