My first REO, My first Coil: Help?

Just received my reo grand in the mail and wow, this mod is built like a tank, looks beautiful, tastes great.
I built my first coil and at 12 wraps, 30ga kanthal, 1/16" ID it comes in at 2.4 ohms. I thought this wrap would give me a lower reading. I'm looking to build a wrap around 1-1.5 ohms. What should I do differently? Thanks in advanced.

Short answer: less wraps or lower gauge wire. Either try an 8 wrap 30awg coil or get your hands on some 28awg kanthal. Should do the trick.

either go with 6 to 8 wraps or double the wire over.

I'd drop down to 8 wraps while you wait for the 28 ga your gonna order to come in.

You could also drop the coil down in size by wrapping the 30 ga around a 1.4mm mold.

Either way, I would also recommend moving the coil out a little more from the posts. Here's a pic of where I set my coil

12 wraps of 28 gauge should give you around 1.6 ohms, using the 1/16th bit. The higher the gauge the more ohms it will have over a given distance. also, as the gauge gets higher the wire gets thinner.

thanks everyone for the info. built a coil with fewer wraps and got great results. will try repositioning the coil as super-x has suggested when i get home from work. thanks MamaTried for the extremely informative link.

for me 9 wraps 28g gives 1.1ohms. that works good till the battery gets down to 3.7v then i see a performance drop. next im going to go to 26g and am looking to not see the drop till below 3.5v. hoping its not too hot at 4.2v. needing a happy medium!
