Just got my first igo-l and provari. I bought 33 awg kanthal wire and a 3mm silica wick. I made my first coil, it's metering out to 1.9 ohms. Unfortunately, It isn't working too well, vapor production isnt great and flavor is lacking. I made 3 wraps with the 33 gauge wire. Any tips for a new build? Such as modding the airhole, number of wraps, ohms, volts, dual coil, etc... This is all brand new to me so any feedback is much appreciated. Thanks!

I think I should've gotten a lower gauge wire so I could make more coils.

30g or 32g wire would have been better. You can make a dual coil build with this set up with help.First, cut about a 3-4 inch piece of silica, then fold it in half. Now the tricky part cut two pieces of wire the exact same length.Start at one end of the folded over silica and make your first coil as close to the end as possible. When you get that now loop the silica AFTER,you wrap your second coil at the other end of the folded wick. What you are going to do with this is connect one end of the wick to the posts, then form the loop and connect the other end thru the posts. This will turn into a juice catcher build(it will hold up to 20 drops,if not more).
Make absolutely sure you cut two pieces of wire the same size this is a must,or it will not fire,or short out.Wrap about 3-4 coils for each and you should meter out somewhere in the 1 - 1.2-3 ohm area.I have pics of this build on the Smok RDA thread if you want to see what the build looks like.Hope this helps.

Haha yes the airhole is lined up. I just built a new coil and it's working much better. With the previous coil I kept getting a burning silica taste so this time I simply used much more wick, about 4 folds, so its feeding the liquid to the coil much better now and now its working great. 3 wraps and its at 2.4ohms, running it at 5.5v and its now fantastic. I'm definitely gonna get 30 gauge wire next time.

So, any of the following will do; 1.2 mm, 3/64", or #56. Ace Hardware, online, or buy the Dremel mini drill bit set for $10 @ Lowe's-Depot (if you're desperate/in a hurry)

BTW: enlarging holes is easy (i.e. any old drill bit will do). Drilling fresh is a PITA (like for dual holes). For that, you'll want 3-5 bits, in case you lose the sharp on the tip, AND some cutting fluid like "Rapid Tap" (its cheap)

Update: The vapor production is fantastic with the igo-l but it seems that my flavor is being seriously muted. I was using cisco attys 510 and 306 before this and the flavor was much better with them. The flavor still wasn't even that good before I modded the airhole. Any reason why?

I had the same issue with standard twisted silica. Just like with clearos, the normal silica mutes flavors to me. It wasn't until I switched to German double-twisted silica that the flavor passed disposable atties. Other great options that I haven't tried but heard good things about is Ekowool and braided ceramic.

That's exactly what i'm using. German silica from rtdvapor.com. The flavor is just seriously lacking :( very dissapointing. Should I try boiling the silica or something?

Sorry to hear that! Nope, don't need to boil it, I just give it a quick torching. Not sure what else could be the issue, I get great flavor with my set-ups, as good or better than Cisco atties. I do get better taste from the IGO-S than the IGO-L, I think because of all the extra space in the IGO-L. Try some different wick and coil builds too. I really like doing a tight micro coil with 30 or 31 gauge Kanthal that I thread a single length of German silica through. I also use just a short length of silica.

Keep experimenting. I wasn't totally sold on these drippers until I could meet and surpass the taste of disposable atties, since flavor is numero uno to me.

The big air-hole you made might be an issue too. I keep the air-hole the stock size as I find the bigger holes are too airy, which results in a lot more vapor but a lot less flavor (to me). Even the stock air-hole gives me more vapor while keeping the same draw as a standard atty. Maybe try covering the air-hole partially with tape so the draw is like when you got it to see if the flavor improves.
