Great suggestions as always jerms. My current setup is 3 folds of 3mm silica with 3 wraps of 33awg wire. Its about 2.2 ohms. Running it at 5.5v.

Definately try some thicker wire to get improved flavor. I bought a hundred feet of 31ga for $8 through Temco and it's been my go to. Works well for my use on my VAMO. I'm also getting great results from 30ga, just have to bump the watts up for the thicker wire.

For now with the 33ga try doing a single layer or a double layer of silica. You'll be able to get more wraps in without bringing the ohms up. For drippers I haven't liked anything below a 4/5 coil. When you get thicker wire I highly suggest giving micro coils a try. I have a nail that makes the perfect diameter to thread in a single length of German silica. About 10 wraps touching or near touching for a little above 2 ohms has been working great. Takes a little more time to make the coil and I still need more practice but it's worth it.

Only thing is when i first got it, I was using 2 strands of the 3mm silica and it was giving me a burning silica taste, like it wasn't wicking well enough, that problem is no longer an issue with the 3 folds of silica. So wierd lol

Yeah the smaller your wick the more important it is not to choke it, with any of the wraps. It's easier to get away with tighter wraps with the thicker wicks. If you haven't tried it yet, use a needle with the 2 strands when wrapping to help make sure your wraps aren't too tight. One nice thing about using a nail to wrap the coil first for me is that all wraps are the same size so I don't accidently make one or two too tight, which ruins the wicking. Keep practicing! If the wick isn't keeping up with two strands try again making the wraps a little looser. It's pretty easy to taste right away when the wicking isn't feeding right.

Im using 32G with cotton as my go to and it works much better then the ole silica I was using. Cotton is just so darn easy to make coils with. I struggled to make coils when wrapping it around silica. Now I just do a standard 6-7 wrap around a toothpick. Attach it to the igo-l and thread the cotton through. When it gets gunked up. Yank out the cotton. Heat the coil till its red and boom back to a brand new coil. thread the cotton through and go back to vaping. Not being able to dry burn the cotton hasnt been an issue at all up to this point.

Awesome, thanks. So i'm about to buy 30awg kanthal and new silica. 1) do you think 30 gauge is good for me 2) what diameter silica should i get 3) Where do you recommend getting this stuff from?

Yeah 30ga should be fine on your ProVari. I wouldn't go any thicker than that, the 28ga and lower work better for mechanicals. The only silica I've tried that I like is the German silica from RTDvapor. Other silica I've heard people like is Ekowool and the Imeo from CloudofVapor. Cotton is an option but I have no experience with it.

My sfruit e juice would be burn tasting if. Ran 2.4 ohm at 5.5 volts. Just my blurb

Haha yes the airhole is lined up. I just built a new coil and it's working much better. With the previous coil I kept getting a burning silica taste so this time I simply used much more wick, about 4 folds, so its feeding the liquid to the coil much better now and now its working great. 3 wraps and its at 2.4ohms, running it at 5.5v and its now fantastic. I'm definitely gonna get 30 gauge wire next time.

Totally agree Jerms - 31 gauge is the best "in-between" wire that works with most possible builds! Stuff rocks!

Does the amount of silica used affect the flavor?

Not really. I tend to keep my silica fairly short to switch flavors easier, and don't really have any need for longer tails.

Already got 30. How does 2 or 3 folds of 3mm silica with 4/5 wrap of 30gauge wire sound?

I've had success with that. Guessing it'll be around 1.5 to 2.0 ohms. Remember not to wrap too tight so you don't choke the wick. The 30ga will need higher watts to heat up than the 33 you were using.

The wire just arrived, I got it from mountain oak vapors. Did 5 wraps of the 30gauge, it's at 1.2ohms, running it at 4v. Wow what a difference! Flavor is fantastic and vapor production is out of this world. Thanks for the help everyone!

That is so awesome, I was really hoping you'd be able to find a build that has it working for you.

I'm still working on a better build to work for me on my IGO-L. I do the same build as I do for my smaller drippers but can't get them to taste as good on the IGO-L. It's still good, just not great as on the others. Not sure why exactly but have a couple new builds to experiment on the IGO-L. One nice thing about this dripper is there's a lot of room to experiment with it because of it's size.

Okay, here's what i'ma tell you that you can try... I am not responsible for any malfunctions or issues this may cause you.

Now that that is said and done. For about 4 months I ran a triple twisted 32 awg Kanthal-A1 coil at 4/4 wraps in my IGO-L. Until today, when I got 28 awg. However, as seen in this thread, even at the same exact Ω readout (0.7Ω), the triple twisted wire performed better, i'm guessing due to more surface area.

Good luck.

Just fiddled around with it again and used 3 inches of the 30gauge wire, made 8 wraps around 3 folds of 3mm silica (9mm total diameter) and its even better. Came out to 2ohm running it at 5.5v. With 8 wraps of the 30awg i got a ton of surface area and since the ohms are higher i can run it at more volts to get higher watts, therefore making the thicker coil heat up quicker.
