Hi guys,

I'm new to the world of RBAs and I'm encountering a problem right off the bat. Be gentle, I am 100% a novice and this is my first time attempting to start using my own coils.

I've been itching for a while to get an RBA and start messing around with my own coils, both for the money saving factor and interest in "doing it myself".

I've been using the smok Alien for a while now with the purchasable coils and really liked it, so I went out and got the RBA set up for it and I've ordered all the bits I need to start building coils.

For now I decided I'd just start by getting used to wicking the coils and decided to do so with the pre installed claptons that come with the RBA, but I'm having some real issues with it popping and spitting hot vape rocks into my mouth.

I've put what I've learnt from online tutorials into practise - seem to be using roughly the same amount of cotton as the videos I've watched, cutting it just about inline with the o-rings and tucking it down as demonstrated. I've tried with a few different amounts of cotton and can't seem to get it right and it's starting to irritate me.

From what I understand it could be the coils getting too much juice, but even with a lesser amount of wick it's still happening so would really appreciate some input from you more experienced builders.

Cheers folks

I've just some new coils. Dual twisted 28g Kanthal coils, 5/4 wraps coming out at .44ohm (was aiming for .4 using Steam Engine calc so not too far off for my first ever coil?)

I primed the wick and installed into the tank, first few hits were great and then its started crackling also, so it's definitely a wicking mistake I'm making I think? Really struggling to figure it out, can't see anything different I'm doing and I've tried more cotton and less.

What watts are you vaping at? Are you getting a good vape from it? Are you getting any dry hits?

Hi Mate,

I have tried various wattages from 30 up to 80 ish. At 30 the popping is less noticeable but not as much vape or flavour. The more I crank the watts the worse the spitting gets.

No dry hits at all and flavour and clouds are generally both very big.

Cheers
