USP *is* pharmaceutical grade. That's what the "P" stands for.

The stuff at Essential Depot is exactly what you're looking for.

NO! You can not be right!!! Because that makes too much sense!!! It has to be more complicated!!!!!! Besides, everyone knows USP stands for "Unique selling point" :p

USP = United States Pharmacopoeia
"the nongovernmental organization that promotes public health and safety by establishing state-of-the-art standards for medications. Also called USP-NF. 2., the reference work published by this organization in which these standards may be found. In this context, it is more properly known as the United States Pharmacopoeia and the National Formulary."

god I love google, sometimes I'm just too dumb to use it. Thanks Trick!

-Bent, congrats on getting into DIY so early, I thought about it in mid 2010, but was lazy, now, i shed tears for all the $$$$ I spent on crap juices.

Oh my...

I was so glad you asked the original question and you got some answers. I was "lurking" and I am now reassured.

US pharmaceutical (USP) is the correct one.

thanks very much for this info. i had been wondering what USP meant. i had also wondered why they would put 2 different grades on the same label. USP Food Grade is about as misleading as typing "Gasoline: Octane 87, 89" lol, make up your mind is it USP or is it Food Grade!?

Actually it is more like having a label saying it is road diesel and off-road diesel. On-road diesel has less sulfur than off-road, so it is more "pure". (Plus off-road diesel is usually referred to as Farm diesel.)
Purity in order:
USP (Pharma)
Food (Food)
Agricultural (Farm)
Machine (You get the idea)

So if you already make a product pure enough to be USP, you can market it to the categories below it.

Not like a number that tells me how likely something is to explode due to compression only. At least that is what I use octane ratings for.

I checked out the ED USP. The web site says...

Our Propylene Glycol and Vegetable Glycerin products are loved by the E-Cigarette community because they are the best and purest product you can buy.

However, I searched the site for "nicotine" and I did not see any Nicotine Products. What are we doing for the best and purest nicotine-base VG (and PG)? What I bought says it's USP, 100% Kosher, intended for inhalation, but it also says Food Grade, and does NOT say Medical, or anything like that.

I've been getting a lot of Gunk Build-Up in a very short time frame (days), so I'm looking for something better!!! What would go great with this ED USP? I like 100% VG. I bought 36mg VG, and mixed it 50/50 for 18mg. If I missed it at ED, I'd appreciate the pointer. Otherwise, please let me know what you guys are using.

Thanks :)

ED sells PG & VG, not nicotine. You noted it says USP which means Pharma, so not sure what else you want it to say? It's marketed toward soap makers and for food use, but it meets Pharma (USP) purity standards.

My favorite nicotine vendor is Xtreme Vaping. It is far from the cheapest, very far. I use it because they were testing batches long before any other vendor was and had times when they had nothing to sell because what they received did not meet the standards of their own tests. All this bother means I always get the clearest tasteless nicotine solution. It's just consistent. I've used other vendors, but haven't found the same consistency.

I'm sure others will post their favorite nicotine vendors. It's a popular topic...

Sorry for the confusion. What I bought that is giving Gunk was from another Vendor.

I'll look into Xtreme Vaping. Cheap is what caused the problems, IMHO. Now I have all my answers!!!

I'm so glad you showed up here, Hoosier. I've seen some of your other posts, and you are always so helpful and informative!!!

THANK YOU!!!

ETA:
Quality is extremely important to me, for Purity, but also for Taste. :)

If you are using flavoring, that is the most likely source of the gunking. Not sure how quick it is occurring though. I have one recipe that will gunk up a coil somewhere between 10-15ml of use. If it wasn't so damn good, I'd stop using it, but I'm going to keep gunking coils with it for quite awhile...

Fewer impurities in you bases also helps, but if you're using flavoring I doubt it's a huge contributor.

I'm still at 100% VG. I have done a little Thinning with DW, Everclear (too strong) and Bacardi 151 (used too much), but no Flavorings yet. I'm going to try thinning with a little Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, but will keep it to about 5%. On the (apparent) bad advice of someone, I used 20% of the 151. But for every-day vaping, it's 100% VG - not thinned. Maybe a little thinning with DW will help. I'm still very new at this, but wanted he purest juice I could find, and my limited research brought me to the Vendor I chose before.

I'm a pretty heavy Vaper, and it gunks up in less than a week... a big clump around the coil. I can clean it off by soaking in Everclear, and then a Glow Burn and knock it off, but it's aggravating, and tastes nasty. The color taints the whole Tank (a Vivi Nova, with original Silica Wicks and 1.8Ω coils at 3.3V).

I'm also a dedicated user of Xtreme Vaping nicotine base.

For VG I'm sold on 6 oz. bottles of Humco Glycerin USP. Two for $10 at CVS a mile away. No shipping charge!
