I have KF3.1s that I build using 32ga kanthal a1 (from temco) micro coil, about 6 wraps on a 3/32" dril bit, with a target resistance of 2.5ohms.
The wick is sterile cotton balls (from walmart/cvs).
I use a resistance box and the KF base so I can 'tune' the coil for the desired resistance
I finalize the coil using an old vamo to put the final tweak on the coil.
I roll the cotton into a strand thin enough to fit loosely through the coil. then work it back anf forth a few times to ensure it is not too tight.
Install the chimney base and trim the wick ends about 1/4" above the chimney base.
Using a toothpick, gentlly tuck the wick down to the floor of the base, gently push the wick away from the juice channels.
Wet the wick with a few drops of juice
Install the chimney top, one final resistance check and a couple of test firings and you're ready to complete the assy and fill.
