OKAY AN UPDATE.

Everything is fixed and i only feel slightly stupid.

When "samba" went down, I had a minor freak out. I got the provari and ibtank all ready to go and struggled for two days to get it anywhere close to what i was used to with the reo.

So i ordered another Reo. Right about then Rob pm'd me and asked me to send samba back. I had planned to send it tomorrow when i go back to work as the post office is across the street, but lo and behold the mail gods brought me my new reo.

As soon as i opened it i realized the problem with samba. Someone had pushed the button so hard that the button cover had jammed down on to the actual button, causing the positive contact to never connect with the battery.

I had checked it before, but it had seemed fine. It wasnt until i saw the new one that i realized how far down the contact goes to hit the battery.

Anyway, Im now safe and calm with two reos :)

Thanks so much to everyone who tried to help. You guys are all awesome!

Thanks for the update from which we learn as well. You're not the first person this has happened to, neither will you be the last. This happens in spite of Rob having added a doohickey inside the delrin cover to prevent same. Maybe you had an older model cover. Anyhow, al least you will be able to help other Reonauts in future. Great to hear you now have a backup - post a picture of the family!

No, the delrin button is an accessory, which you fit over the firing button, check it out on the Reosmods site. Some people like it for the looks and say it is easier on the firing thumb/finger. Some people don't like it, saying it locks the button inadvertently or for the reason slowmovingtrain had the problem. I have one Grand with it, one without, but have no real preference. Here is a picture - Left one with the button, right one without the button:

Even if Rob has addressed and fixed the problem for future buyers of the button cover, there are old ones out there still, so there may be this same problem showing up from time to time. If you buy a REO from the classifieds and it has a button cover, chances are it's one that can be pushed down too far and "freeze up" the firing mechanism. So....it's good for all of us to learn from these instances so we can help the next person. Thanks for the update...it helps us all assist future newbies.
