Helping the Homeless (dont know where to post)

Sometimes it's an effort to focus on the positive. I thank God for the serenity prayer; It has helped me through so many situations. Thankfully too, I can refuse to get into any of the negative at the moment.

Sigh...

Anyway...sending you a PM shortly with some questions. It would have been great if I could have started my effort to do something similar up here, but that didn't pan out [yet anyway - I'm not giving up on it]. I'm not even near the city any more, and without a vehicle also, so that would be pretty tough presently.

the emails mostly came from non posting or non forum persons.. no ID or info..

but on a better note..

kerc is doing so much better.. i have vids of him from 4 years ago... yikes.. we are trying to get him INSIDE while he continues to adapt to being a more functioning member of the community. He has a great heart and asks so many questions about everything. he is also a gifted car mechanic.. we use him to fix bikes and turn junk into treasures.

he recently earned a brand new touring bike and he treats it like it was made in Gold.. (no, not salemgold),,

i have more vids, more stories.. but like i have said its a dignity thing..

the wet batteries are sloved with a ziplock.. but, we dont always think about that when we have drank 12 beers and smoked a dube.... (joke folks, but for some its the truth)

My Addiction/recovery class has been growing and growing and growing.. we now serve a full 4 course meal "hot" during the class.. i also have the showers available thanks to Pastor Scott..

some of our friends work the garden in 100 dgr heat and the shower is awesome..

i asked how many were sober today on thursday.. everyone raised their hand.. I used to get three out of the group. i dont care for how long i just care about today.. some have months, days, or hours.. its all good..

that term you spoke of, well, to live like that takes way too much energy... its easier to live with good character and integrity... less to keep track of and no real planning needed...

I jumped off the pain meds this weekend again so i am in withdrawls. i do not taper. sort of gives me credentials when i deal with the addicts and counseling... years ago i was on oxys and percs for a loooooong time.. ouch.. this time it was just percs for six months. i am do for another two surgeries and will deal with them when the time comes..

please pray for the families of those who were harmed and killed in the colorado tragedy. That could have been our kids, wives, hubby's....

Hey Brother Frankie, I hope you feel better soon. I was on a lot of pain medications and Cymbalta and Lyrica. I can relate. I got tired of them all. Now I just use Aleve and Blue Emu. If you try Blue Emu, at first it seems like it doesn't work. My cousin who makes the commercials for it (she is Bad Grandma on YouTube) told me to use it 3 times a day for a few weeks. It is great as long as I use it but if I skip a day the pain is bad again.

I have read through the thread, I am not in a position where I can help but I wanted to say thank you. I myself spent a a couple of years homeless, living in a tent, knowing at anytime a cop might show up and I would lose what little I had. But my choices where there or in a shelter.

Not trying to down the shelters as I do understand their rules, but when you have medical problems it is not so easy to have someone telling you when you will do every little thing. Not to mention, the never feeling safe or relaxed.

I was lucky in that I am off the streets now. It wasn't easy. I wish tho I had known someone like you. Keep your chin up, I know first hand how some people can be about anything to do with the homeless.

This is a best ever thread I have your address and will be sending some vaping supply mail for you to help people. I have been homeless and know what wanting nicotine is like. It is just something that is on top of everything else that goes with homelessness.One more misery Finding a long .... would have made my day. I am glad to see other people care...

we are actually not a shelter. we dont really have a word that describes what we do..

all of our guests at MH say, wow, this feels like family.. I FEEL SAFE HERE..

the Matthews Hope website sort of explains it..

I have been so busy with my own health and surgeries along with Matthews HOPEs expansion. I have been out in the camps often as well.

I have guys and gals that have medical issues and they are homeless. We have a converted motel that now houses our friends who are recovering from surgery, or have medical issues such as TB, strokes, etc....

our guy "grizzly Adams" eric is in one of the rooms. He gets care, school, a room, transportation to and from dr's all in a safe environment. Another is david J who has some ortho issues...
now roberto, is having two rotator cuffs done and will be there for a few months... this is a group of Dr's and medical people in community that decided to donate their resources to make this possible..

i have handed out over sixty vape sets of various styles and equipment.. i am seeing aprox 20% stop smoking completely..

aprox 25% just lose their stuff..

and about half that are in the half analog half vaping spot..

what is cool is they are like a club that hangs out together now.. could be a new gang called the "vagabond Vapors" m..

i was joking with Kerc and a few others saying we will get t-shirts made..

vids and pics in a bit..

i just had another surg and then another one on monday.. thats three in 3 months.. arghhhh.

i have vids and pics coming as soon as i get a chance..
