Hey all! My name is Dawn, and as of today I have been vaping for two weeks. By now I have realized some mistakes that I have made, have corrected some and am working on the rest.

1. I regret that I did not find this forum sooner, but since I am not the only one and I have since corrected that mistake, I wont dwell on it.

2. I thought that I wanted/needed an e cig that looked like a real one, and an automatic. Umm yeah, no. At this point, I wouldn't care if it looked like a friggin tuba, as long as I was getting what I needed from it. The look a likes are too heavy to hold like a real cig anyway, and it's got crap for power. Nicotine level and vapor are what is important, not what it looks like.

3. I thought that I was going to be able to put down the analogs right away and never look back. While some people have managed just that, I am not one of them. I am having a harder time letting them go, than I thought I would. Have I cut back? Hell yes, I have gone from 1 to 1 1/2 packs a day, to about a pack a week. But I can't seem to let go completely. I will get there though, eventually. Part of the problem is that I am mildly ocd and am having a hard time letting go of the ritual of analogs, my e cig is not a good fit, and lastly nicotine strength...which leads me to number four.

4. Different companies describe light, med and high differently. It's important to pay attention to the mg listed. While most of the companies listed here on ecf are similar, the company that I ordered from was not. I ordered the medium, which in itself was a mistake because I should have ordered high. Also I noticed too late that their medium was listed as 10mg...not even close to what I need. Better to go high, and then cut it if it's too much.

5. When you order flavored juice, let it sit. I have tried a couple that tasted pretty rank on the first day, or tasted like nothing at all. A few days, a week or two weeks later, it's like a whole other juice. I am still not really thrilled with the flavors, I can't seem to taste many of them at all. I have a french vanilla and a bavarian cream from diy flavor shack that I can taste, though not very strongly. I am pretty sure though, that it is because of my crap e cig and the fact that I haven't let go of the analogs yet. I can totally smell the difference after a week or so, when I sniff at the bottle. Not being able to taste them very well however, has not slowed down my need to buy and try more. I figure I buy now, let them sit until I find the right e cig. That is what I am telling myself anyway. :p

So those are the main things that I have learned so far. I have since ordered a higher nicotine level and am doing a bit better, but I think my biggest problem lies in the actual e cig that I have. I have been reading so many reviews of e cigs on here, that it kind of makes my head spin a bit. I think I have narrowed it down to a riva, but can't decide if I should go with a 510 or a 901.....or an ego. Crap there I go again. Any advice would be greatly welcomed.

Have a good one!
~Dawn

Hi Dawn! Welcome to the forum. You have already learned so many important things, I hope I can help clear up some more for you.

The eGo is rebranded and copied by a few different places so it takes many names: eGo, Riva510, Tornado... all the same. Many are choosing the Riva510 these days because it's the same as an eGo but less expensive.

And the juice: in addition to letting it "age" like fine wine, there's also the matter of your taste buds being shot due to your smoking. When you let them sit and try them again two things happen: your taste buds are healing so you'll be able to taste them better and the juice matures to bring out the flavor. This process will be slowed because you are still smoking on occasion so it's taking longer for your taste buds to heal. No big deal, that happens all the time - like you said, not every one quits smoking from day 1. Just don't give up on the ones that aren't doing it for you now, if you try it again in a few months you might find that you like them then.

Here's something to look out for: Some day you'll find that all of the sudden you can't taste anything at all.. it's because you need to drink more water.

Good luck!

Dawn,

Welcome to ECF:) Congrats on you making this decision!

Yes, 10 mg would be a low place to start. I think once you find your sweet spot in mg's, your urge to smoke an analog will go away completely. Experiment till you find your perfect mg strength and then find a flavor you LOVE! Then the idea of smoking a skunky analog isn't an option because they taste SO bad compared to a great tasting vape. I've been smoking for 30 yrs and once I found the best MG and flavor, I haven't touched an analog since and they are in my house( hubby still smokes).

You might want to try the DIY method. You can make your juices as potent flavored as you want and control your nicotine in MGs. MistressNomad has great videos stickied up top in this New members Forum that tell you how to do it. I like this method because it's extremely cheap and I can go crazy with trying different flavors:) I started with 5 flavors and ordered 5 more this week so 10 favors in 2 weeks LOL!

Congrats!

I see nothing much to add. Your path choices are sound. You have the ability to question and adapt. You realize your own limitations and what is needed to work with them.

Keep at it. You will find the perfect fit. There is plenty of good hardware out there and there is a juice that will change your whole outlook after the first taste.

Coming here is the best step for finding that fit.

Welcome to ECF!

My only input is that you haven't given up the analogs because you haven't found the right flavor yet. Besides having a solid vaping device.....you MUST find a flavor or two that you REALLY like. That was one of my biggest problems starting out so I kept smoking like you. Once I found a couple of great flavors, I was done with the analogs.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the welcomes!

Rosa: So what about the riva 510 and 901, is there much difference between those two? I have been keeping track of that sale LF is going to have when they get stocked up again. I figured I would grab two of them if I can, but going back and forth between the two. I am a little worried about the lr atomizer that comes with the 510 because I have read that they affect the battery life in a big way. Or am I worrying about something I shouldn't be? As for the water, I have read a few posts about that, and have been drinking tons more water than normal.

silkakc: Yeah, I never thought that I would say this before, but analogs taste awful right now, and I hate the way the smell lingers on my clothes. There are just times though, when I just have to have that little push, that little extra that an analog gives me. As for the diy, I have already started. I have about 14 flavors already, ordered three more yesterday. Unfortunately I pretty much suck at it right now lol, or maybe I dont...since I can't really taste them very well. I have a feeling that this could become addicting lol.

Hoosier: Thanks! Finding this forum has been a blessing. I've learned a ton, and know that I will continue to do so. Seems like a lot of really nice people here too.

BadThad: Yup I think you are right, need to find the right one for me and then I will be good to go. Thanks!

Those were my thoughts when I got my first one over a year ago. Now I'm sitting here waiting for my Joye 510 to arrive (ordered yesterday). This is a new round for me, and hoping it will go smoother than the first round. GL with your search, maybe later we can compare notes.

Kythcat: Funny how priorities change once you get a hold of some good info and figure a few things out. I think the most important thing I have learned, is that everyone's experience is different and you just have to figure out what is best for you. Comparing notes later sounds good to me.

Rosa: Thanks again for your input. For whatever reason, I find myself leaning more towards the 510, so I will probably take a whirl with that one. If I am not happy with that one, well there are about a million more out there to try lol.

banjo: Thanks! I have spent an insane amount of time reading on this board, trying to learn as much as I can. It's even affected my bejeweled obsession, and I didn't think anything could do that!

My only care is getting a nic fix... the actual instrument for doing so matters not.
It could be gum, analogs or vaping. As long as I'm calmed down and don't feel like ants are crawling up my skin, I'm fine.

It seems like you're more connected to the experience of smoking rather than the effects of it.

Flame, you have learned a lot in a short period of time. You are on the right track and you are gonna do just fine.

If you are still trying to decide between the Ego and Riva, don't let price be the determining factor. I started with the Ego kit from Cignot (a great supplier btw). Then a couple weeks later, I added the Rivas to my collection. Although initially less expensive, I ended having to replace the Riva attys with some genuine Ejoy (Ego) attys. Now all is well. But in the end it cost me more for the Riva kit than the Ego kit.
