Great post here, Lu & Great tips coming in-
I also do Spring & Fall cleaning- Spring Cleaning is usually the worst actually- I try to do it in Spring but it usually ends up getting done in March, April, May, & June- Then in August/September I do Fall- Seems I need to adjust my cleaning schedules- LOL
W/ 5 kids seems we are always cleaning but the deep down stuff I do get done twice a year- Try to stay on task and non stop cleaning, sorting, organizing, getting rid of, and outdoor things until they are done but it doesn't go that smoothly- especially when work was in the way-
I have 5 containers of clothes I am still sorting through right now- I am very proud of myself though- Got alll th ebedrooms except my youngest boys all cleaned out- my youngest boys usually come first but this time are coming last due to clothes to go through- some may fit them now and I need to rotate in the wearable good stuff, rotate out what no longer fits, etc- Was trying to get it totally complete before school started but I have another system- Been putting wearables in one dresser and the other is stacked w/ stuff- LOL What a system right now! LOL But little by little we are getting it done-
My tip:
get Plastic bins w/ good lids or space bags or both- one for each family member (space bags are a gem)-
all seasonal items get cleaned and put away ONLY if it will be wearable the next year due to size changes- and theie names on masking tape on it!
What is not wearable by one goes into next youngest IF it will be wearable by them, etc-
That way as season changes, I know who needs what (& I usually buy off season when items are on sale or at big sale times- LOVE JC Penny, Kohls & TJ Maxx)
Also, only what is wearable NOW is in their drawers- All my kids are in various sports so the sport wear stuff is always out- I hate that! Soon I want to do a sports wear container and they can pull from there when needed and wash & put up there when done- we will see
The containers are put in garage on the ceiling mounted shelving units and the space bags usually go in the tops of closets- Mine is under bed-
I also use the space bags for changing bedding for the season- All washed and put away- easy to get out and change things when weather changes- one space bag has the throws and such so if needed just pull from there and not have to take out seasonal bedding in the process-
I use straight Lysol A LOT! Also love my OXY & Febreeze- great to get out irritants, keeps bugs away, etc- & febreeze is next best thing to vaping! LOL
Also, a container for toys- all that are kept go in one and all to get rid of go in a cardboard box- just pick up box and get rid of- (yard sale then the battered womens shelter, etc) same as clothes to get rid of- as we sort, I keep 2 cardboard boxes for the "get rid of" stuff-
Ziploc baggies are another grand friend of mine- all odds and ends, game pieces etc, seperated into baggies and then put where belong- always manage to keep all together this way-
Lu, I like the shoe organizer bag idea- I use when we go traveling to hold all toiletry items, things we need to find as we head out for the day, etc but I like the mail and pens etc idea for it- Now, where to put it... LOL
I keep a 4 drawer plastic bin on rollers to use for kids homework stuff and project supplies- Always know what they have and such - a cork board for them to pin notices for me & hubby to see, progress reports etc- I used to use in boxes for this but it got messy quick and too much they were bringing home- The nice thing about the bins is all supplies that don't get used one year are still there so the next year I know what we still have and I don't need to repurchase-
HTH some of you!
