coils that come with attys are usually silica and 32ga or a bit bigger. I build my own and cotton wick and rewick those for almost 2 weeks. Dry burn those silica wick coils after a wash in warm water. You can reuse those too.

I have a friend who swears by boiling her coils when they start tastin nasty. Says it works great

Clean/Dry burn and most are as good as new.

yes you can use cotton balls,take out existing wick dry burn it and install new cotton wicks.It is not hard and if yo have trouble check out you tube.

I will also drop coils in a bit of vodka (unflavored and inexpensive works just fine). I'm about 3 months into vaping and only a week ago did I start rebuilding or even rewicking my original coils.... I have rotated thru almost a dozen coils and have only thrown one or two away (by mistake). Dry burn and wick with cotton has worked wonders

I dry burn coils all the time. My wife vapes a heavy coffee flavor which can gunk up coils in a couple of days. I usually dry burn her's after a few days and put in a cotton wick. I also make coils so I replace them after dry burning a few times...
Making coils is extremely easy; heck, if I can do it anybody can!

For what is worth I just make my own. The cost of wire is minimal and I can say I supervise the production. The other thing is I hate to clean'em, takes me longer to clean the coils than make a new one.....And it gives me something to do in my golden years!

Not a silly question.
I boil mine, then let them air dry for a couple of days, then dry burn them and most work like new.

Edyle, I have been rebuilding coils with kanthal and silica for a while now, and have been messing around with cotton but was always struggling with making the coil, then wicking (always just wrapped the silica) and after seeing your pic.. Holy bleeping lizards!! I now have a cotton wicked coil!! Thank you for posting that!!
