I signed up here for the most part to get some help.... Been vaping on and off for the past 6 years and have always bout from three different companies online for all my supplies. When I got into vaping, the only things out there were the 901s and the subscription cartridge batteries for the most part then there were the custom made mods. No such thing as a VV/VW vape. I bought me a screwdriver MK1 then an MKII and have been using my 801 MKII since. I really did not know the vape scene had exploded as it has. I have been seeing more electronic cigs for sale at my local gas stations, but never thought much more than it being progress for the crappy disposables.
I happened to be in a certain part of town a few weeks ago and passed a store sign that read "BLANK BLANK Vapors" with Electronic Cigarettes and E-Juice below that. I had to check this place out.... someone actually opened up a store front dedicated to vape? No way.
Turns out not to be anything I was expecting... Was a vape store, but was all steam punk and dark... but they do have a salt water tank with shrimp and anenomies in it... that was a plus. Anyway, I ask the guy at the counter if he has any atomizers and he is yeah, they are bla bla each. I tell him I would like 5 801's please. He looks at me..... huh... You mean 808's? we dont carry cartomizers for the 808 any longer. I say no, not 808, I need atom-i-zers for the 801. He looks at me. you have your battery with you he asks. I reach into my pocket and hand him a spare battery I keep with me. He hands it back and says no, your battery.
Now I am dumb founded. In all the years I have been alive and using portable electronic devices, the small object I handed this man has always been known to me as a battery. So I set it onto the glass countertop and look at it and ask the guy, if this isnt a battery, please tell me what it is. Now its his turn to be dumb founded... he says that it is a battery but it isnt your PV battery. At this point in time I had never heard the terms PV or Personal Vaperator. So I just looked at him. He then picks up his PV and tokes on it for a second then shows it to me and says this is his battery. I said it looks like an electronic cigarette to me. He turns red and walked out from behind the counter and out the front door.
I made the man leave his own place of business....
He came back in about a minute later and asked if we could start over and we did, and he educated me some in the evolution of vaping and e-cigs.
Turns out that my 801 is pretty much extinct and the winner of the standardization platform was the 510. I showed him my Screwdriver and he talked to a few other employees there about an adapter to convert the 801 battery to use 510 atomizers or tanks. But they didnt have one and would be weeks to get one if they ordered it from the supplier. So I had him talk to me about the new cigs they had and he ended up selling me an iTaste MVP 2.0 with Protank II and juice..... a starter kit....
I have pretty much retired the screwdriver... though with a fresh battery it tokes better than this MVP. I did find the adapters on line and got two for both my SDs and use them both with an iClear 16 or the protank.
I stopped back in there the other day to get more juice (they make over 30 flavors and they do it one bottle at a time) and got a chance to watch a guy build a coil on his rig (I dont want to call this thing an e cig even though it was - it was a bad arze vape machine) and got to ask questions. He talked me through his philosophy of the perfect vape and I got a better understanding of this new VV world I am living in. Rebuilding a coil was wishful thinking with an atomizer.... much less upping the voltage or wattage or trimming down the resistance....

I am going to describe the box mod he was working on and hope that someone here can tell me what it is called so I can find it.
It was a black metal box that had a battery and a bottle of juice in it and a cover that allowed you to thumb squeeze the bottle, with the coil directly above the bottle of juice on the outside of the metal box. with a button on top next to the coil. The coil was a wire he just made wrapping wire around a very small drill bit, then inserting the ends into the seat of the housing and screwed down two set screws one for each end of the coil. He then took a cotton swab and pulled it apart to make a wick and threaded it through the coil. Once he did that he inserted a 2000amp (yes 2000amp not 2000mAH) battery into the box and slid the lid closed. he squeezed the bottle a few times and hit the button. this thing was spitting and sputtering and a plume of vape was coming off the cotton/coil. He said he had to give it a minute to allow the cotton to get good and saturated. then he put a mouth piece over the coil and vaped it.
I want this set up. He said it cost him over 200 for the set up. I am guessing that is probably retail at that store of which I have found to be quite pricier than online or the other local store that I have managed to find.
Thanks for any and all help tracking this mod down.

between here and there
WOW. Great story. Glad to have you back. Afraid I really can't be much help to you as I find it hard sometimes to keep up with all the new items being created daily, it seems. So many choices. and you are right. 901's went by the way side a while back. too bad, cause I really liked them at the time. Probably still have a couple packed away somewhere. LOL.

From what you are describing, it sounds like a reo, with an atty you re-build. You should just ask the guy at the store the name of the mod and what each piece is. Altho, I am sure some members will be along shortly that probably know exactly what it is you are looking for.

Good luck and keep vaping.

:)

edit. Ikenvape is still around. google him. He is the only one I know of that used to sell the 801 atties. I will also see if I can find his thread for you..

Ok, I went back to the vape store cause all my tanks were giving me a burnt taste even after cleaning and replacing the coils.
I saw the same guy there and asked him again what type of mod he has. This time I wrote it into my phone. He had a REO. I went to REOs site and they sell these things that are completely mechanical for $150 each. these are bottom feeder types, has the bottle inside and you squeeze the bottle to make they juice go up to the coil. I would love one of these but with the $150 for the mod, the $20 for the battery, the $10 for the charger, the $50 for the coil atomizer REO sells.... I cannot afford it. The atomizer is nice, completely rebuildable and puffs nicely and you dont have to just use silica wick in it, you can use cotton if you so chose.
Does anyone know of a mod that is like the REO but not as pricey?
