I just never "got" Rush. I understand the incredible musical talent of the members, especially Neil Peart and Geddy Lee. But I never enjoyed their music. I guess I'm not a progressive rock fan. Come to think of it, I never like Yes either (except for "Roundabout").

Never liked The Moody Blues either.

I'm more of a boogie woogie / blues guy, I guess.

If you're boogie woogie then that explains it. Rush is a cult band. They're like Sludge...either you love 'em or you hate 'em. :)

Thanks for the words of encouragement, Pappy. My uncle also bequeathed me two of his beloved banjos and two beautiful mandolins. I loved to hear him play so much, and I'm determined to do these remarkable gifts that he left me some sort of justice. Really hoping to hear more of your favorites soon:2cool:

Wow, banjos too!! Very cool. Learning to play a banjo is on my bucket list.

Here's one more for you. Hound Dog Taylor playing "Give Me Back My Wig":

I've recently inherited this Les Paul from my great uncle, which is such an honor - 2006 Gibson Les Paul Standard Plus in Honey Burst - Artisan Guitars, but I won't touch it until I become worthy of it by practicing on the beat up old guitar beside me:laugh:. ...

If you ever learn to play this, I'll come over and I'll do Johnny Winter's part, and you can do
Rick Derringer's part. They never played better than they did when the teamed up with each
other...Best blues song ever if you love guitar:

Biv, thanks for posting that. What a flashback!! I bought that album when it was released after hearing "Johnny B. Goode" on the radio. And I had already heard the single "Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo" - from a studio album - on the radio.

I had just graduated from high school. (I'm dating myself here.) I was mesmerized that anyone could play a guitar like that. When I heard "It's My Own Fault" and saw that it was a cover, I had an epiphany that there was a whole genre of blues music that we had only been allowed to hear bits and pieces of because mainstream radio in white america just wouldn't play it.

That started my quest to hear and learn more about the blues. That led me back to guys like Elmore James and Muddy Waters and, later, guys like Buddy Guy.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Just Simply Jimmy Thackery - YouTube

I hope this works...my computer is seriously wigging out. Anybody ever heard of Jimmy Thackery? I have two of his CDs and remember many moons ago listening to him endlessly. I want to thank you all for this thread. I need to rediscover myself and remember who I am and where I came from. (cheesy I know but true) I can't freaking think straight lately and I need to get back into my old music. Jimmy Thackery and me go way back (no I don't know him personally). This brings back many memories. Enjoy!

Well, since you're trippin', you might as well get some newer stuff, too. Like
Joe Bonamassa, Carlos Montoya, Gary Moore and Kenny Wayne Shephard.

Here you go Biv - one of my favorites and you can fall down go boom boom as much as you like.

Thanks, Hula. That's awesome. Powerful. I had a Canned Heat album featuring John Lee ......
and it was better than any other ...... I ever had (stop it people). These bands pull stuff out
of him that he doesn't get when he plays with himself. (I said stop it).
