Hi Vapechick, and welcome. I'm new to this site too, and well I'd say a newbie vapor just because I tend to keep it simple for myself and I've only been vaping for a little over a year. For the short time I've been here everyone who has helped me has been great.

I smoked a pack to a pack n a half a day. I still smoke, but it's only 3 or 4 a day now. I think I just do it now out of habit for an after meal smoke. For some reason I just can't entirely kick that part of it. Sad part is that it's only half a Marb 72 I smoke each time.

As suprtrkr said the Nautilus tank is great for lung to throat vaping. It's got plenty of choices for airflow. I've had mine for exactly one year now and it's never leaked. Only bad thing I have to say about it is that sometimes it's a pain to take the bottom off to change the coil or fill with juice.

On a side note those thick and really dark juices will clog up your coils. It can get expensive to replace them. I'm sure others will tell you to build your own coils after awhile. I can't since I still use the pre made ones. I do soak mine in Everclear to clean them. It seems to help them last longer.

For nic strength I had to switch from 24mg to 12mg right away. The 24mg juice was to strong and would make me feel ill. The nicotine hit me a lot more from vaping. Once I switched to a lower nic level I never felt sick again while vaping.

Hi and welcome vapechick.

I have already begun my way down the road towards vaping (9 days now) and my Kanger Subox Mini Starter Kit is satisfying my needs. Good sturdy mod and vape; however, I must admit I may be missing out on some of the flavours. Kanger seems to be a reliable brand, so you can't wrong there. My starter kit came everything I needed to start, except for e-liquid :p I'm vaping 12 to 9mg nicotine juices.

Have a happy new year and may the transition curb your cravings for a death stick.

Thank you so much everyone!! It's so nice to join a group where everyone is so friendly, and SO helpful! I was a bit nervous to join - I usually lurk in forums like this, reading everyone else's experiences and questions but never posting myself. I've seen a lot of places where people will get ridiculed - especially newbies - for asking questions, or even just stating their opinions. So thank you!! This is a breath of fresh air (wow, pardon that really bad pun!)

On to my questions... I GOT MY VAPE KIT!!! YAY!!! (If I can figure out how to, I'll post a pic. It's SO PRETTY!! Yeah, I'm a sucker for the shiny...). It came pre-charged (points for Kanger), so I was able to fill her up, and take her for a test drive about 25 minutes after it arrived. Admittedly, it could have been quicker, but I really did ooh and ahh for about 10 of that. It's a little embarrassing, really.

[Apologies in advance for the rambling, but I swear, eventually I do get to my point and questions! Bear with me!]

The description page for the EMOW Mega on the website that I bought my kit from (misthub.com - btw) listed, among the other items in the box contents, 5 additional coils. Sweet! In the narrative above that, it said that it comes with both 1.5 and 1.8 resistance coils. One coil is "pre-loaded" in the device, and five more are in perforated foil blister packs. You can read (barely) through the blister pack plastic in really tiny letters that those coils are 1.8. Great. I assumed, then, that the pre-loaded coil was the 1.5. Because I'm a dork, I had already loaded the tank. I wasn't confident that I could get the coil out to confirm the 1.5 without making a complete mess of myself, my pretty new toy, and basically everything within a 5 foot radius, so jumped on a vape website that had live chat help (and also carried the EMOW mega), and asked if I had assumed correctly. "Kyle" didn't know. Lovely. Wasn't the end of the world, but would have been good to know. Anyway, I let the coils soak for a good 10 minutes, turned the voltage to the lowest setting to start out (3.2) and only one air vent open. Fail. (Shay.Babe15, Grimwald, you were ABSOLUTELY correct!). Opened all 5 air vents, kept the voltage at 3.2, and...... Disappointing!! Seriously, I probably didn't even need to 'blow' out, as there really wasn't anything much to exhale to speak of.

To make a long story... well, longer, at this point :p - I ran through all the options/settings that I know. I went up the ladder in voltage, all the way up to 4.8. Took apart the tank and checked the coil - it's a 1.8, just like the others. I don't know what happened to the 1.5 - either it was a goof, or perhaps they changed the contents of their kit without updating their marketing collateral. The coil is saturated well, and the battery is completely charged. I'm using Seduce Juice's Exodus 7:20 e-juice. It's a 50/50 blend, and 24mg. Don't misunderstand - I'm not looking for HUGE clouds, but I was hoping for at least as much vapor as I used to get smoke, with regular cigarettes. I DID get a little more satisfying vape when I went up to the 4.8 volts, but it's still not great. What am I doing wrong?? Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

It doesn't sound like your doing anything wrong. I am using the EMOW tank at 3.3 volts with a 1.8 coil and two air holes open and mine is working fine. Perhaps try a new coil (I burned one out today vaping 1.5 at 4.8 volts) I think if you go up to high in voltage you may damage the coil as it will get to hot, if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct me. Very nice looking device by the way. :)

A good formula to use is to take the ohm rating of the coil, and add the number "2" for the voltage used.

2.0 ohms + "2" = 4 volts.

Regardless, adjust the power accordingly to your own personal tastes. Always start low and gradually increase to your sweet spot. Remember, different flavors may taste better at different power levels.

Thanks, Bonnie!! I guess I didn't think about the possibility of burning out a coil so quickly... Wouldn't it *taste* burnt, though? Or do I not get what a burned out coil means?
When I burned out my coil I didn't get a burnt taste. It just stopped reading (put it on my mod to check it) altogether when it gave out.

Welcome! I had a Kanger EMOW kit. It was a good setup...it looked and worked great. I purchased it when it first came out last year. Looking back with hindsight, I do feel that it was pricey. But that is neither here nor there (because I realize that price points and where they are on the spectrum of 'cheap' vs. 'expensive' are different for different people). But congrats to you for taking a stab at vaping and you have a nice unit to start out with.

That's a very pretty machine you have there :) To answer your questions: a burnt coil might taste burnt, if you burnt the wick. If you burn the wire-- tha actual heating element-- it will just stop working entirely. For more vapor, let me suggest you a) switch to the 1.5 coils and b) go to a juice with a higher VG percentage. In ejuice, the PG carries the flavor and adds throat hit, plus thins the VG down to the point where it will wick. The VG is what makes the white, billowy cloud you see. A good way to test would be go to the drug store or walmart and buy some VG. Get USP food or pharmaceutical grade, but that should be all they carry. Then add, oh, say 10% by volume, of the VG to your juice and shake well. Try vaping that and see if your cloud doesn't improve. Be aware adding VG will dilute both flavor and nic content, but all you're doing is making a test right now. If it works, then try a 40PG/60VG blend next time you buy juice. Or even 30/70, but be aware high VG juices don't wick well.

With any of the "starter kit" type of devices, the vape may not be the most satisfying to some people. They are typically very short on frills and don't have a whole lot of adjustability. On the good side of it, they are typically very simple to use and don't use a whole lot of juice. On the other hand, you typically won't get a huge hit of vapor or anything.

For some people, this kind of device is just what they want. It works perfect for them. For others, the device simply doesn't cut it. Neither group of people is wrong. They each just have their own style of vaping.

Based on your initial reaction, you may be one of the people that a basic kit just doesn't cut it for. If that is the case, there is nothing wrong with that. What I would suggest you do is give this kit a little more time to see if it gets any better. When I started out, I had the same reaction as you. Over a few days, it seemed to get better. If after a couple weeks to a month you still just don't feel satisfied, consider going to a more powerful device. Basic devices are great in that they are very basic and simple to use. At the same time, that simplicity comes at the expense of having very much adjustability with what you can do. With a more advanced device, there is more of a learning curve, but there are also many more options to how you can use it.

If it gets to the point where you really like it the way it is, you can either just stick with what you have, or possibly think about upgrading to something that can provide a lot more power and more vapor. If you go the route @suprtrkr suggested, you can get a small 40w mod with temp control and a subtank mini for under 65 bucks i would think. While it would be a bit of money to spend on something you aren't sure you would like, the subtank mini is good for both mouth-to-lung and straight lung hits. You can close the airflow on it off pretty tight, or open it up pretty wide and get quite a lot of air. The 40w istick he recommended is also a very versatile device. It can be used to run as high as 40 watts, or it can be used at very low wattage for basic coils like the one your emow uses. It won't be able to power the higher powered tanks like the uwell crown or the smok tfv4, but it would be a great stepping stone. It would let you find out if you prefer the more open draw with a lot more vapor, or if you are one who prefers the tighter draw like the basic kits have.

If you find that the basic kit doesn't do it for you, I would strongly suggest going with the subtank mini and istick 40tc for the reasons I mentioned in the previous block of rambling. I wouldn't suggest just jumping straight into a very high powered mod and high powered tank because there is no way to be sure that is what you would be looking for. If you find yourself still wanting more vapor after you are using a subtank mini, you can always look into a higher powered mod and a high powered tank, but be warned that they drink juice like crazy(it isn't unheard of for me to run through 15ml of juice in one day with my tfv4. For that reason, I have no choice but to make my own juice).

Sorry...this got a lot longer than I expected. Hopefully you can stumble your way through it and find some useful information. I think I hid it in there somewhere lol

Thank you suprtrkr! I appreciate all of the info. I seem to be getting a *little* more vapor by turning up the voltage just a bit. Oddly - when I switched juice and used the Suicide Bunny Mothers Milk, I did get a slightly burnt taste. Nothing horrible, just not yummy. When I switched back to with the Seduce Juice or Bombies (both of which have higher VG), everything was fine. I'm going to give it a few weeks, just to see if, as you mentioned, things get a bit better.
In the event I'm still non-plussed, I'm thinking I might try switching my tank to the Smoktech Tumbler - anyone have any experience with that one?

Hi speedy_r6! Definitely a lot of great info. I don't seem to be using hardly *any* juice, at all. Which, I suppose is good? But I'm not really looking for a big, high powered mod. Just something that will give me a nice, flavorful hit, and a decent amount of vapor. Thoughts?

I know there's a lot to remember. I promise, next month you'll understand it intuitively and marvel you didn't always. But here goes: I have no experience with the Smok Tumbler. However I can see it's a disposable BCC clearomizer. It appears to be eGo threaded, which your Emow battery can handle. I do not know if it will give you a lot more vapor, In general, to increase vapor, you reduce coil ohms, increase wattage (voltage in your case), and increase VG content of the juice. Still, with the Emow you are limited in available power. I can not conveniently find a spec on just how low a coil it will safely fire, but I'd be leery of putting anything much lower than 1.5 ohms on it, that being the lowest factory coil available for the factory tank. You will almost certainly not increase vapor production by increasing coil value.

If you wish to try a different tank, let me suggest an Innokin part rather than the Smok. The iClear 12 is a 1.25 ohm clearo and is as low as I would go on your battery. The iClear 16 can be had at 1.5 ohms or 2.1 ohms. I'd try the 1.5 to see if that helped.

Be also informed some juices are very sensitive to coil temperature. I do not know if this is true of Suicide Bunny's offering you like or not-- I DIY my juice and don't know much about factory juices-- but it is possible if you turned the power down a bit on it the flavor would settle back. You might try that to see.

Welcome to the forum!

I started out with 24 mg. as well. Actually I bought the same liquid in 12mg and 24 and figured I would mix them to lower/raise the nic content. I needed 24 to get off cigs. You can always lower the nic content by adding a little pg.

Listen to your body. You'll know if it's too strong-not strong enough.
