Hi folks. This is a really great place! I have been reading as much as I can find time for and it has helped me a lot. Believe it or not, my doctor (a well-respected Internist) recommended I look into e cigarettes after I was unable to quit smoking tobacco. My first draw on an e cig (and my last tobacco cigarette) was 9-17-14, and was/is a total revelation- a real game changer for sure! I've even had an open pack of cigarettes here the whole time but haven't craved them over vaping, and I think that's great.

My local b&m store sold me a basic Kanger EVOD setup and 10cc of juice for $20.00 even. Being new to e cigarettes and vaping, I am on a rather steep learning curve. The EVOD seems to work okay (more on it in a later thread), but I’ve been recharging it using the cheap-o USB charger that came in the kit. Will this type charger shorten the life of a battery? I read that battery life will be longer if the battery isn't charged to the maximum voltage, and that some chargers continue to trickle charge after the battery is fully charged and that this wasn't good either. So what is a good charger for this type battery?

Thanks for your time and for any suggestions or info you may have for me.

Regards, Mark

Hello, Mark . . . Welcome to the ECF Vaping community.

Congrats on taking the jump to become smoke free.

I think that the charging method, which came with your kit, is fine. If like most others, you will eventually move onto a different device. Nonetheless, keep at it and I trust that you have a fantastic and productive vaping journey

Welcome! I don't know type of EVOD you have, but I have the passthrough one and I believe it has a protection circuit module inside so that it cannot be over charged. The light will turn green when it's charged. I use a 5v charger I had lying around that came with an old cell phone.
It's just a basic Kanger EVOD setup. Came in a blister pack with just the atomizer, battery and USB charger. During the demonstration she gave me a 900 mah battery from an Imperial Smoke starter kit instead of the 650 mah battery the kit was supposed to come with. So it has a few differences, but essentially it's still the same type battery. When 81%-100% charged the lighting around the button lights up white, when the battery is at 41%-80% it glows blue and is red when at 0%-40%. It flashes and won't fire if the coil is shorted. I seem to recall it's regulated at around 3-1/2 volts or thereabouts.

I have been charging it as soon as it goes to blue (80% in other words), will recharging it at 80% hurt it?

it shouldnt HURT it, but all lithium batteries weaken over time. i would wait until it was red for about an hour before i started charging it. i use a vision vv battery that doesnt have different light indicators and wait until its completely dead before recharging usually, but i have charged it when it was about half life and it didnt seem to affect the performance much. hope this helps

also, CONGRATS ON PUTTING THOSE TARBARS DOWN! and welcome to the wild world of vapin.

Thanks for the welcome, guys!

I've read where some still have a strong enough craving for cigarettes that they will still go back to them occasionally. I guess I'm lucky or something, I have had no cravings for burning tobacco over my e gig. Not to say I don't crave the nicotine, mind you- that's still there, no better/no worse than when I smoked tobacco. I suspect I'll always use nicotine, but who knows- I may try tapering down from the 12 mg. juice I'm currently using.

In any event, I could not be more pleased with how the past week-plus being tobacco-less has gone! Even my non smoking, non vaping wife is on board with it after seeing there was much less odor and no more dirty ashtrays.
