Just started yesterday the e-cig,try to find out a bit more about this.I have been smoking for the last 31 years, decided to give it a try with it.
We have no good information here in Greece,in fact the day i started it on tv they said it is dangerous and in some occasion caused pneumonia or accumulation of fluid in the pulmonary air sacks.
Well,what do you say?
I know you have been asked a lot about this please bear with me.:2cool:

I don't know the answer, sorry.

I believe there is little, if any, independant research done on the use of PVs (=personal vaporizers). Some studies show a reduced lung function for people working with fog machines (which also use PG). If this has relevance to PV use is neigh to impossible to conclude.
(please correct me if I'm wrong)

I personally believe there might be some health risk involved. At the same time, I belive vaping must be a significantly less risky than smoking.
I recommend that you knock yourself out with all of the information here at ECF (and elsewhere on the net). But do so with the awareness that the pharmaceutical industry, and the big tobacco companies influence a lot of people and institutions.

Just my 2 cents.

The components of e-cigarettes are propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin and flavoring. PG is used in things like respirators and asthma inhalers. VG is similar and also considered safe. The only element that might cast some doubt is the flavoring.

Since hundreds of thousands of people use e-cigarettes every day and no one has reported any such claim, I'd say it's a bogus attempt to protect the status quo for the pharmaceutical, health care and tobacco industries who are desperate to stop the sale of a major competing product and the loss of billions of dollars.

Just my $.02.

Welcome aboard.

There are some sticky links at the beginning/top of the New Members Forums here. There are also sections dealing with health issues of vaping.

I've only been here a few weeks, we see a lot of international members come through here. You're the first person I have noticed from Greece. Beautiful country. A friend of mine and his family are from there.

Hi tsalis and welcome to ECF. As others have mentioned there has been no real clinical trials in which the effect of vaping were studied. I can tell you that The Doctors TV Show recommends the Ecig
Electronic Cigarette-ecigarette: Featured on The Doctors TV Show. - YouTube
The AASPS (Association of American Physicians and Surgeons) also has a petition for Doctors promoting the use of the Ecig and have stated PG and VG are safe to use in Ecigs.
AAPS - Association of American Physicians & Surgeons
As for my own personal experience my Doctor, Dentist and Nose Surgeon all support my use of the Ecig and have encouraged me to vape in their offices in the hopes that other patients/ smokers will try it.
In regards to PG/ Propylene Glycol:
Medical Uses
PG has been used as the aqueous-based chemical additive in asthma inhalers and nebulizers since the 1950s, with no serious side effects known. PG, because of its water-retaining properties, is the compound of choice for delivering atomized medication. It is also a common diluent for injectable medications, constituting 40 percent of the intravenous form of Phenytoin, an anti-seizure drug.
Electronic Cigarettes
Persons trying to quit smoking have recently turned to the recent invention of electronic cigarettes. Battery-powered, these devices deliver measured amounts of nicotine diluted in PG and then inhaled. A heating element within the device vaporizes the compounds, thereby allowing for easy inhalation. While many have questioned the safety of electronic cigarettes, their concerns are directed toward the inconsistent amounts of nicotine, not the PG solution in which it is delivered.
There is a Doctor in Alberta Canada that is studying Ecigs. He supports the use of Ecigs and stated his only concern was Quality Control. He also stated his testing indicated ALL Ecig companies operating in North America were delivering their product as advertised and Quality Control was not an issue.
Of course there are no long term clinical trials so we just have to go by little bits and pieces here and there. The success rate of Ecigs is far greater than other cessation forms/ methods.
Personally I know if I continue to smoke I will either die or have serious health issues. While the risk from Ecigs are relatively unknown I prefer to take that risk based on my own research.
Hope this helps, Vapoor.
