Mariss, I would first like to say thank you for your response. Secondly, the part about " nobody wants to touch a cancer kid" such yourself. I don't know if you meant to be light, but I feel you believe some part of that statement. I am a married father and I don't see anything but a beautiful young lady. Don't make decisions for others, let them decide if they would "touch a cancer kid". Somebody would be very lucky to have a beautiful, intelligent, unique lady in their life. ;)

Chimsweep said what I was trying to say much better. ( more gooderer) Don't assume. Let them decide. If it's decided before there's a chance then it won't ever happen. :p

Second question: What the eff were in the cigarettes if they're messing with menstrual cycles?! Am I the only one that is genuinely freaked out by this?

I know right!? Before I got over the fact that I wasn't pregnant I was like, holy cow cigarette's are DANGEROUS why didn't anybody tell me!? Haha, just kidding :) I'm glad this topic didn't totally freak everybody out, I feel better knowing I was not alone! I am also relieved people are willing to talk about the changes our bodies go through as we quit smoking and start vaping, I guess the only other really noticeable side-effect I've had is that my hands and feet are really warm all the time. Oh, and I have a way lower tolerance for disrespectful customers at work, oops, haha.

Big tobacco has had over a century of free reign in throwing in whatever they want into tobacco to make it taste, keep burning, mellow it, strengthen it, more nicotine, other addictive compounds. Pretty much anything that didn't kill the user instantly.
Read an article that mentioned there was a tobacco company in the 1950s that used asbestos as filters because of its fireproof qualities.
I know with what I experienced that I still am getting my nicotine but,I quit smoking. My body told me so...

When I quit smoking, my thyroid stopped working.

Well, I don't know if that's anatomically accurate, but I now have an underactive thyroid. Somewhere in the hormone production/conversion/binding, my thyroid stopped working properly. I now have to take thyroid hormone supplements. We're still working out proper dosages, so I'm a mess, but smoking (somehow) plays a very active role in hormone regulation/production/alteration.

So it makes sense that quitting messed with you in this way. I don't know HOW.. But in my mind, it makes complete sense.

There's a very technical article about smoking and hormones. I'd love it if some biologically-inclined individual could break this down simply for us!

Okay, so after reading this, I will suggest you see your doc and get your thyroid hormones checked.

Missed periods, plus overly warm hands/feet COULD be absolutely NOTHING. Could be a combo of quitting smoking affecting your hormones and returned circulation to your extremities.

On the other hand, an overactive thyroid can cause you to miss your period, warm hands, increased sweating, intolerance to heat, weight loss, excess energy/irritability, and a whole bag of other seemingly random symptoms.

I have an underactive thyroid, so I had the opposite.. no energy, cold ALL THE TIME, absolutely exhausted, dry skin... the list goes on and on and on.

Check up on hypERthyroidism and if you can relate to a few of the symptoms (and they started since you quit smoking) see your doc for a simple blood test. There seems to be a connection between quitting smoking and the onset of thyroid issues.

Best of luck to you!

I am also like clockwork and big stress and pregnancy is the only thing that has ever caused a change. But after recently beginning to vape and droping the analogs completely I experienced the same thing! I thought it might have something to do with vaping and the slight dehydration I have experienced. I am guilty of not drinking enough water. Thanks for sharing it helps!

Also super stoked that I have quit the cancer sticks with out gaining weight!

I also have a 808 and love it!

Quitting smoking hasn't affected shark week for me, but it has seemed to of affected other things. I quit smoking after having chest pain. Quitting immediately brought on anxiety and panic attacks. Chest pains persisted for months (currently on 5 months). I made my husband take me to the ER twice because Dr. Google says all chest pain is heart or cancer. I took Zoloft thinking the chest pains were anxiety related. Zoloft made my anxiety and chest pains worse so I stopped taking it after a week. Turns out the chest pain was gastritis and reflux. Vaping tends to aggravate it if I don't eat a bland diet (Prilosec isn't working so I'm attempting to resign myself to a lifetime of water, oatmeal, and fruit & veggies lol). Quitting smoking can do all sorts of things to the body or make existing conditions more noticeable.

Oh wow, I am so glad you posted this, OP. I have a 21 (I knooooooow) day cycle and I was a week late. I wasn't worried about being pregnant cause my behavior assures I would not be producing a savior, but I was concerned that I was hitting a very early menopause.

So I'm glad I'm not alone in that. For those of you who are having issues with sleeping, so am I. When I talked to my work-mandated (in order to stop paying the smoking penalty on my insurance) quitting smoking counselor, she mentioned that the tar in cigarettes causes caffeine to be half as effective.

A lightbulb popped in my head at that. I've been drinking a lot more, and that includes sodas. No wonder I can't sleep and no wonder I'm much less tired during the day. New rule: nothing but water after 7 pm.

Yes I now can no longer touch caffeine past about 2pm. I love my coffee but I drink herbal tea or vape coffee-flavored ejuice in the evenings. At least I cut out soda years ago or I would be missing that too. I drink a lot of seltzer or flavored water to take the place of it, and that way I've cut back on sugar too. I force myself to keep a glass of water beside me while I vape so I don't dry out.

Thank you. :) That is my favorite picture, I took it a few days before I went in for my major surgery and it is my goal to get that smile back! Part of me was joking, yes - I've learned that sometimes the only sense you can make out of life is a sense of humor! I can be a bit hard on myself, and some of that is the self-depricating jokes. There is a fine line between taking control of your life and your choices, and blaming yourself for what's out of your control. I also never really got over being left when I was in the ICU, and I stopped putting myself out there after that. That had to be the worse thing that ever happened in my life. I wanted to get better then find someone, but the getting better part hasn't happened and it's frustrating as hell. All the success stories you read about people being tumor-free, well you don't read about how hard it is when they take not only your health but your livelihood, your relationships, your friendships, etc. I am trying to rebuild at the same time I consider it a triumph some days to get out of bed. I do appreciate the kind thoughts, they are validation and I don't just brush them off so thank you again.

And so I don't hijack the thread :) I thank the OP too - I will go get my hormones checked next time I am at the doc, I won't blow this off any longer. I hope you do the same, OP. Fixing it shouldn't be that big a deal, because it happens to women all the time. But ignoring it could lead to bigger problems. In fact I am going to make an appointment in the morning because this is something odd that has never happened to me before. There's no reason I shouldn't be like clockwork, so something is off.

I've only been vaping for a short time, and haven't dropped off the analogs completely.

I haven't noticed anything personally other than a bit more dehydration (to be expected), but I have been having trouble sleeping well. Part of that is due to external factors which have been present for a while but yeah I'm just more wired over the last week.

I do drink a lot of coffee, even late at night and some sodas. Going to cut some of that out and see how that goes. I had a big day at work today and I'm still just amped, even though I'd normally be laying down to sleep anytime within about the next hour.

I'm supposed to fight the zombies, not feel like one!

Thank you so much, sleepysarah for starting this thread. I had actually started my monthly the day I chose to start vaping. yikes. It was a bit early for me, but being 47, i expect things to change. for decades, every month was like clockwork, unless I was preggers. Been vaping for 17 days, analog free since start day. The only age related "change" I have been experiencing in the past few months is timing, but it's never completely missed. The latest i have been was 2 weeks. Hubby and i had a huge giggle over pregnancy tests (I have also had my tubes tied, lol), but things are still pretty regular. I am curious to see if my friend will come on time next month.

So far, the biggest body change I have noticed is my personal "scent", if you will, seems changed to me. Maybe it's my enhanced sense of smell, but tho I smell other things better, they don't smell different, like i do to me. Hubz and I had been smoking chemical free cigarettes (American Spirit Organics ~ as chemical free as analogs can be) so we had already withdrawn from many of the analog related chemicals, and we felt that withdrawal MUCH worse than any we have anything in the past 17 days. I am thirsty more often, and have been making the effort to drink more water. I understand this is normal as vaping moves more air than smoking.

I thank you sleepysarah, because it's nice that such a personal topics can be freely discussed here among adults without fear of embarrassment, harassment, etc. I am glad I finally joined today, instead of lurking to learn.

mariss, thank you for sharing your personal struggle. (((hugs))) from a caring stranger.

Thank you.

It's been a year to the day since they removed my tumors, damn I can't believe it. I thought that would be it but it was just the beginning, still a long road to go. Vaping honestly keeps me sane some days! :vapor:

PS I made my docs appointment about the "topic" of this thread, I go in Tuesday for that. In addition to the missed periods, my hands and feet have been running very cold lately as well, so I will ask her to check me for hypothyroidism.
