I wrap my own coils and wick with cotton...so much better than the stock coils with silica. I aim for 1,8-2.0 ohm coils. I know the replacement coils are not that expensive, but the homemade ones are cheaper than dirt.
I'm new and just started rebuilding my coils.... Too me the cotton provides way better flavor. I don't know why, but the difference is night and day.

Thanks, I've so far been using the stock 2.2 Ohm coils & found them to be okay. ...ish.

If I want to start re-building these (I glanced at some online 'how-to' vids)
Where are the best places to buy the raw materials for the wicks & wires?:)

Love my Protank 2, even more than my 3, cheaper coils. I also saved all mine untill I was ready to try rebuilding. I like mine around 1.5 ohm, but it depends on what battery your using if its a variable volt or just a set voltage ego. If it is a regular ego I would go with 1.8 ohm. if you have a v.v try it at the lowest and work you way up untill it right for you if you go to far it will start to taste burnt. also if later you want to rebuild them, its easy and I also think it's better than the stock silica. I tried the prewrapped coils from fasttech 50 for like 3 bucks and use sterile cottenballs for the wicks. although if you decide to make your own just make sure you know how to test with a ohm reader or tester.

I have recently upgraded from a stock Evo stick to a Innokin MVP2 vv/vw & am firing on 3.5v / 7.0w. I've been wholly vaping for around 11 months after 30+ years of 'real' cigs - maybe my taste is returning. I think it's the 'silica'? material that tastes 'burnt' after a while (a week or so), rather than the coil 'burning-out' - can I rinse this out & re-vape, or is the whole unit designed to be disposable/replaceable?

I would just rebuild them, I bought a 50 ft roll of 30 gauge Kanthal A1 wire and 15 ft of cellucotton(rayon) off of ebay for about $10 then bought a few 5 packs of Kanger brand coil heads. I use the heads until they are burnt out, taste bad like you stated then rebuild them. Your MVP has a built in ohm meter but its not a bad idea to also check them with a multimeter.
