So, I've been vaping since 2010. I started with those joyetech 510 pen style things. After a few years I went to a kanger tank with those long stick batteries. After a few years of that I went to a joyetech aio.

I'm a former smoker so I like mtl.
I'm here to find out about rta's and appropriate mods so I can continue vaping during the coming ban.

I have been looking at the kayfun5 as a durable and long term rta. And the aegis single battery mod. I don't remember what it's called.
For MTL, get the Innokin Ares 2 or Ares 2 LE (same RTA, just a different look) and the Innokin Kroma-R mod.

The Ares 2/2LE is a true MTL tank that can do tight or loose MTL. The Kroma-R mod is solidly built.

Welcome to ECF.

You can never go wrong with a Kayfun. Great vape and flavor. They're built to last and last. If you go the K5 route make sure you buy spares (glass, insulators). Spare o-rings for any RBA can be found at much lower cost at various online stores.

If you are meaning the GeekVape Aegis Solo (single 18650), they are excellent mods. I own several and have never had any issues with mine.

There is also the GeekVape Aegis Max that takes a 21700.

Cheers!

Are you located in the USA?

aegis single battery mod. I don't remember what it's called.

Aegis Solo and Aegis Max. Both are pretty much the same mod but the Max is slightly larger because it will take a 21700 battery as well as an 18650 (with supplied adapter).

I think the Kayfun 5 is a SUPERB choice if you get the authentic or a clone with the metal sleeve. Although I would say you should get both the Ares 2 and the Kayfun 5.

Only reason I don't recommend the Kayfun 5 at this juncture is because you have to get them overseas and I am not sure where to get an authentic in the USA. I don't have the authentic K5, but I have a good many clones in my stockpile. There is a really nice KF5 clone on the market today but it may require some drilling (at least it does for me). The 4 juice holes on the deck are too small for me at 18-20 watts restricted DL vaping so they need to be drilled and doubled in size. But others may be fine with it the way it is. Other than that, it's a beautiful and well-built clone. If interested, PM me and I'll send you a link (but it's in China).

I'm guessing you know the OG SvM Kayfun 5 was discontinued.

It was replaced by the K5 SE. It's an airy MTL to RDL.

Kayfun 5 SE | 35055

There is also the Kayfun 5² and the Kayfun 5² SE. Both are DL.

Kayfun 5²

Yeah, but if there is a local vendor that sells OG kayfun 5, they might have one in stock. I dunno as I don't even know who sells them. I don't own any of the other ones or the Prime so I can't say much about them. Was gonna buy a prime but I heard it was tighter than the 5 so I passed.

The reason I was attracted to the KF5 (clones - which I bought long after it was originally released with the exception of the one SXK clone I have) was for it having full metal sleeve, like the KF4. Yeah, not being able to see your juice level sucks, but I like the idea of not having glass to break. I've learned to live with it, but I do use it with glass as well. It's nice to have a tank that's built like a tank. lol

Very true. None of the usual US online stores (OriginVape / Dicodes-USA) have them anymore. I'm also with you, in Europe if there are any more OG K5's to be had they're likely to be found in some local shop. Creme de Vape, InTaste and StattQualm don't have any.

I don't own any of the other ones or the Prime so I can't say much about them. Was gonna buy a prime but I heard it was tighter than the 5 so I passed.
The OG K5 and K5 SE starts at 1.8mm AF. That's the same as wide open on a KFL+. I have a few authentic Primes. The airflow is stepped: 1mm, 1.2mm, 1.4mm, 1.6mm, 1.8mm and 2mm. I always have a Prime in rotation.

The reason I was attracted to the KF5 (clones - which I bought long after it was originally released with the exception of the one SXK clone I have) was for it having full metal sleeve, like the KF4. I have gone full metal on my K5 and Prime's. The Prime does take the K5 full metal (6ml's). I used them like that for awhile in both wattage and TC modes. At first I was leery of not being able to see the juice in wattage mode but learned it was no different than using an RDA. I could feel less and less vapor. So I knew it was time to refill.

I upgraded my Primes to the PEI kits which gives them a nice little 5mm window so I can see my juice. I prefer to see my juice levels.

The KFL19 and KFL21 or are also very nice MTL RTA's. I have the AF set wide open on my KFL19's (1.8mm) and for me it is a really nice airy vape.

@Bauble -- I know you mentioned the Kayfun 5 but there are also a few others I would suggest having a look at.

The SQuape Arise (MTL-DL) is a very serious flavor machine. They are super easy to build on with great flavor. It's easily in my top 3 and one of my favs. It offers RDA like flavor but in an RTA.

The Atmizoo Tripod (MTL-DL) has a build deck that is pretty much based off of any of the modern Kayfun's. I own a couple. Also easy to build on and offer great flavor.

Lastly is the Dvarw MTL FL. You can buy airflow inserts for it that go from a proper MTL (0.8mm) to a very restricted DL. Not much I can say about these. They just perform, easy to setup with excellent flavor. I also own a Dvarw DL FL that I MTL (super airy) and RDL on.

Honorable mention is the Hussar Project X (MTL-RDL). They offer RDA like flavor in an RTA like the Arise does. Nice little powerhouses.
