Did you ask your doctor that question?

What was your cholesterol level before this doctor visit, did it go up?

Honestly I didnt think much about it as I went yesterday. I have never had high cholesterol but the last doctor I had seen was like 15 yrs or so ago as that is the life of the non insured. Now he does know I am using a PV but he didnt have much interest in it except that it is helping me not smoke analogs and that he liked.

We dont eat out much at all, I drain fat from dishes eat my veges and fruits and even drink ensure 3 or 4 times a week. I eat yogart, oatmeal, grits, and all those healthy type breakfast items as well.

Just concerned as this puts me at risk for heart disease which would be one who shouldnt use a PV.

I am suppost to go back on the 9th of April to have the tests done again but more specifically to check my good and bad cholesterol.

:D I dunno about you but when I eat grits it's gotta be smothered with butter and crispy bacon. :D

High cholesterol runs in my family. I was prescribed lipitor a few years ago but never had it filled and I didn't go back to find out about the good and bad stuff, my test said Borderline number was 200. My dad who was an alcoholic and smoker for 40+ years is now 86 and his cholesterol level has always been 236. In fact all of my sibblings levels are 200 or above except for one brother who is a healthnut and vegan. He always bragged about his low cholesterol and blood pressure. He was diagnosed with MDS a about 2 years ago.
I'm just saying if you don't have a baseline how do you know what's normal?

I had high cholesterol until I started taking statins. You probably also have a skewed LDL/HDL ratio. Blame nicotine. Only nicotine. It's not PG. It's not even smoke. This is a known problem for users of nicotine.

The statin brought my ratio and total cholesterol to perfection.

Thanks Tropical Bob..

Interesting... Will see what the next test results show and may ask about this.. My grandfather and mom both had high cholesterol although heavier than I am but my mom also died young from heart and lung issues. She had a major heart attack at 42 and died right before her 50th birthday. She also smoked like a freight train. Due to my migraines and IBS, I seem to be limited on other meds I can take with what I am taking now.

Certainly it can be caused by other things. When those are eliminated -- I'm a perfect weight for height, take vitamins, etc. -- it's nicotine. And there's no escaping that for an addict.

Good luck, Chokmah. My doctor looked me in the eyes and asked if I would change my lifestyle in order to lower my cholesterol. I did not hesitate before I answered "no." He wrote the prescription and my cholesterol is so good the nurse who reported it to me said she'd kill to have those numbers. Listen to your doctor and be truthful about your lifestyle habits.

Well my lab work from my doctor visit came back and it seems all is well except my cholesterol is a tad high. It is 238 and I feel I eat healthy enough and weigh 108 lbs so I am not overweight at all.

Would PG be effecting my cholesterol at all or anything else in e-cigs for that matter? Any thoughts are appreciated.[/quote

I have been on zocor for 2 years for high cholesterol, and it's been holding steady with the med. I get bloodwork every 3 to 4 months. My last bloodwork was done 11/08, and I had it repeated in 3/09. Not only did the overall number come down, but the good cholesterol went up 10 points, bad cholesterol went down 5 points and my doc was very happy. I have not added anything else that would influence these numbers and to be honest, have been eating a lot of crappy foods, so I was pleased. My doc also said that the zocor usually doesn't make the good cholesterol go up by more than a few points, so I think it's the not smoking. Only will time will tell.
Btw, she was very pleased that I was not smoking, cautionary but curious about the ecigs. Her husband, who is a doctor, came into to look at the ecig ,but was not interested in the slightest. Oh well
