I'm convinced from reading many, many posts on the topic that the amount of nicotine absorbed is largely a factor of how the individual vapes. I smoked what was by most accounts, a mild cigarette for 35 years. Two months in, and I find that anything less than 24 mg just doesn't cut it. I usually use 36, but my high nic juice is 48. The 48 can give me a bit of a rush, and I don't use it all of the time. Twisted Victor, you go higher than 48? Yikes! Anyway, the only reason I'm responding to this is to add my 2¢ that juice nicotine content doesn't translate directly to what the individual absorbs, and that vaping style is a big factor. That's all.

This may be off the mark, but it seems to me that the immediately noticeable sensation of higher nicotine is a "peppery" taste/feeling on the tongue and back of the throat. It reminds me real much of how Nicorette tasted and felt (from a previous quit some years ago). I think that specific sensation may be the only harshness that nicotine itself contributes. Yesterday, for the first time I tried a 25mg of something I'd gotten used to in 18mg, and I noticed that peppery thing right away in the first few drags. But less so in subsequent visits with it.

If I hit something higher than the 11-14mg that I'm used to, I feel it right away and can't get used to it. It's like my throat and tongue start screaming at me to knock it off :p

For me, I started with 36mg initially. Way too high for my liking. Harsh throat hit and my tongue and throat feels extremely dry.

Dropped back to 24mg. Not as harsh but still not to my liking. Dry symptoms still there.

Followed up with 11mg - 18mg and found that it suited me better.

My mate on the other hand found that anything less than 24mg has no effect whatsoever.

So I'll say YMMV.

I have to second this. I started vaping with 24mg. It wasn't quite enough, so I went to 36. The 36 is perfect for my natural style - I don't do the constant type of vaping, I take 2 or 3 hits in between doing other stuff and it might be 30 minutes or so before I realize I need nic. At work, because I can't vape whenever I want to and many times go 4 hours without a potty break, I chew nicotine gum and vape on my breaks. For that I need 48mg to get the nic level just right in only 10 minutes time so I can try and maintain it with gum for another 4 hours or so. I still smoke 2 packs of analogs a day when I am not at work. When I have tried only vaping and not smoking, I can get quite a rush on the 36mg by vaping almost constantly. When I have tried lower levels (a few samples of 11 or 18mg), the flavor is nice and smooth, but it feels like I am inhaling steam (very wet, very thick, and no throat hit). That is very uncomfortable to me, muggy air feels confining like I am in a straightjacket.

I am starting to consider lowering my dose to 8-12 mg from the 25 that I had been mixing my juices at because I think I like vaping flavors and not the throat hit and 'mouth tingle'.

I also think that how I smoke makes a difference. I take smaller hits now. Mini hits more frequently, inhaling some air after I release the button on my 510 or new Tornado. Even on my autos, I draw lightly. :)
