I use AW IMRs, as recommended, but at 1600 some odd mah they dont quite last me through the day. I found these with 3400mah, woo baby!:D
They are Li-Ion...but they are also protected but is there an issue with these and mechs (I have only ever used AW IMR and this is my first real mech).
Anyway, whats the highest mah battery that you know of, that is STILL SAFE?

Those Nitecore batteries are 69mm long. They'd totally squash your ground spring and not let it drop the battery if it needed to. Granted, it's protected, but protective diodes on batteries can and do fail.

I haven't hunted for a higher mAh battery for my Reo Grand. Carrying a spare or two in a plastic battery case isn't an issue. I always have pockets.

The other thing is that they are rated at 4 amps. On the one hand, that limits you to staying above 1 or 1.1Ω for safe use (which is all the more important with batteries that will explode when things go south). Secondly, I find (←indicates opinion) that the discharge rating is often indicative of the overall performance of a battery. Meaning; you might find that, with burst discharges of something like 3.8 Amps, the last 3,000 mAh are somewhat disappointing ones.

when i first got a Reo i already had some AW batteries - they are all the same right? wrong.

They are too big - they crush the spring which is your only protection from a short unless you use a fuse of some kind and they will melt your firing pin.
I went thru 4 firing pins.

I use the AW imr's - or efests and orbtronic 2900 HDs. The 3100 mAh original aw's are used solely in my silver bullet, which has largely been relegated to a role of coil tester.
