Just switched from pack-a-day Marlboro Medium 100s to eGo 3.7v with both stock single coil atty and Smok DualCoils, 36mg juice (PG only, methinks -- from AwesomeVapor). I think that I actually get more smoke with less battery drain from the stock atty, but the teeny little cart needs refilling a lot so I alternate.

I'm REALLY missing the throat hit of the Mediums. Constantly vaping 36mg juice and I'm still going through withdrawal, and while I get a nice looking mouthful of smoke on the initial pull, I'm exhaling next to nothing on the dual coil and only a bit more on the stock atty. I'm pretty sure that this isn't technique; I've tried holding the switch to the count of 2 all the way through to the 10s timeout. Hard pull, soft pull; hold it or blow it out fast -- once in a while I feel and see something nice but most of the time it's useless. I also don't notice much difference between the 18mg samples, 24mg and 36mg bottles that I've ordered, they all leave me with a happy taste after 20mins of pull after pull but otherwise feeling like I haven't taken a single drag. (I expected the hit to come from either higher nicotine or more smoke, which I guess I thought the dual coil would deliver. I've been disappointed.)

I'm wondering what I need if I want a good quality hit on inhale and enough smoke visible on exhale that I believe that I'm doing something. Do I want to look into vv, or ~6v fixed? Do I need a juice with higher VG content? Is my eGo sufficient and I just need some sweet accessory that I'm not seeing anywhere? I'm much more interested in the old, familiar throat hit than exhaling a cloud, but I get all jealous when I see people posting about "huge hit, smoke everywhere!".

I don't mind dropping the money on a good mod if that's what it takes -- afterall, the years of life I'm gaining by walking away from Marlboro are worth a hell of a lot more than $200 (or whatever). But if I don't get a decent hit soon and stop going through this withdrawal I'm not sure how happy I'll stay.

Please, advice!! And thanks!

before you drop more money on mods i'd try a lr atty and a pg/vg mix. the lr atty should help with the TH and the VG should help with the vapor amount. i used a ego-c with the SD atty with a 80/20 pg/vg mix and thought it was good. i smoked marlboro reds for ten or more years. although i am using the provari mini now so yea. lol

Are you flooding it? I know if it is too wet it will give really crummy hits. If it gurgles it's flooded. If it crackles or sizzles it's ok. I found this out fast when I got my 1st bottom feeder. I bet the LRs will help you out. I am a TH junkie also. I just got my 1st provari on monday and I cant go over 5 volts or I will cough after a few drags because the TH at even 5 volts is so strong. If you do end up going VV there are cheaper options than the Provari. I do really like mine tho. Good luck

kcrafton, You have an issue with your carto-battery matchup. The dual coil cartos like to have more voltage and amperage to function smoothly. On your battery I would advise a good 2ohm(boge) or 1.7(smok/ressurector)Single coil cartomizer. The issue is not you but you are getting the feel of how a good carto should work while you are using the fiddly atty/cart setup. Swap over to a quality single coil carto and you will notice major improvements. Keep the dual coils around for when you do decide to make the leap into adjustable voltage bigger battery mods(they will shine up at higher voltages). Good Luck. Happy Vaping.

It sounds that you want to vape at higher power. Power is a function of voltage and resistance. As you correctly notice, the low resistance atty offers a better vape than the dual coils. But a stock atty doesn't do justice to vaping, and the cart system is really a bad memory from the days gone of vaping pre-history. You could try a low resistance quality atty such as from Avid Vaper, IkenVape or SmartVapes. You should use those by simply dripping juice -that gives a wonderful vape, but it takes some learning.

My best guess is it's the dual-coils' fault. A dual coil carto has basically two high resistance coils linked in parallel. That means that each coil heats up much less than you'd expect looking at the total resistance listed. It's not a low resistance device, it's a high drain device that requires higher voltages to work properly.

Therefore, even before talking about voltage, you might want to try a low resistance cartomizer - buy some 2.0 Ohm Boge cartos and they will vape better. You can also try other devices - the 1.7 Ohm XL sized cartos and such.

Next, if you really want to start investing in bigger batteries, look around for further info on mods or APVs as they now call them.

don't do what I did lol. I started out with blu cigs and then jump to v2cigs then jumped to the ego and then the provari. i'm a little over $600 in before i found something that i really loved. I say go for the cartos and see how that works for you. paying 12 bucks for something that could be what you need over $100 to $200. if the cartos don't work then i say look into another mod. just my thoughts. hope it helps

If you end up making the jump up in PVs I would recommend the Provari. I will disclose that I have only had mine a few days but I can tell you that I do have other mods and when I really need to hit the spot the 5 volts is what does it for me. I also love using a tank on it. It's fiddle free for 24+ hours for me. I still love my other mods but will never be without a Provari again.

I was also a pack a day marlboro medium/camel light smoker. You can't go wrong with a provari, especially if money is not a bid deal. Mine is 9 months without flaw so its worth the money. 6v can burn juice and a tenth of a volt here and there makes a difference so I could not live without vv.

I experimented alot and wound up with the Provari with a Boge XL carto (regular resistance) and a 3ml liquinator tank. I punch holes in the carto with a punch bought from vaporage and use 36mg juice (usually cherry tobacco or melon explosion) and a ming drip tip. I use regular 18650 batteries (not high drain) which last longer and I usually vape between 5-6v. You could go low resistance on the carto to boost the throat hit too but you have to balance with potentially burning juice. I stick with PG as it flows better and you can go through juice quickly at higher voltages.

The whole setup with 3ml juice lasts a full day easily (2 days in a pinch) but I have 4 batteries and several bottles of juice (and two USB chargers) scattered around home/car/office.

Once I found this setup I was golden. The tank makes a big difference as it keeps the hits consistent. You might want to try mint-flavored juice as I've heard its good for throat hit (but it might crack the tank, I've heard so you may want check that to make sure).

Yes I agree- single coil SmokTech 1.7 XL cartos would give a better vape. Also make sure your batt connection is clean/ dry. Also the first fill of the cartos is VERY, VERY important. With a 3.7 V PV and 36 mg Nic you should be getting a better kicj=k than that. Also could be the pin on the batt end of the catro is not making good contact with the batt- if this is the case GENTLY pull it out.
