It is not necessary to remove the screw and plastic cover in the inside of the mod. You can if you feel comfortable being delicate and patient trying to put it back together. Just be aware that that top screw can be tricky. You can flush the mod with either very hot water or alcohol (after removing the battery, atty & juice bottle)....allow to dry or use compressed air to blow out the excess water.
Oops were you referring to not removing the screw and not removing the plastic cover?
Or just referring to not removing the screw on the inside of the mod?
Both. You can if you want to. I just know that some have had difficulties getting the screw and cover back in properly.
