I dont know about a hobby yet but I am chasing my personal holy grail of vaping. A cigarette sized device, that lasts a long time that gives me a good vape, isn't fragile and dosn't look like a high doller (OTHER ITEM) .

"High dollar (OTHER ITEM) "? People with money don't use (OTHER STUFF), if they did they wouldn't have money very long.

This is an interesting thread topic, and one that I've wondered about also. As for me, since I'm fairly new, this is still a little bit of a hobby but is far more the means to an end.

I've been smoking for a couple of decades and for the past ten years have been close to a pack and a half a day smoker. I tried quitting a couple of times but I was always drawn back in. Then about a month ago I got my first e-cig and then found ECF. I guess at that point the hobby aspect kicked in (as far as the hardware goes), but I'm a good researcher and settled down with my current APV...and I see no reason why that will change. I may still try a different delivery method now and then (currently settled on the Vivi Nova) but those costs will be relatively insignificant compared to what I used to spend on cigarettes.

But I will maintain the hobby aspect in vaping (since I like my hobbies) by going the DIY e-juice route. In that regard, I'm only looking for maybe three flavors that I can make myself so that I can have a rotation. Once I reach that point, my expenses will be minimal and I will be a lot healthier than I was before I started. I currently have enough stuff in hand that my break even point will be at two and a half months...and that is with some darn nice stuff.

I just recently started vaping. I've spent over $200 so far in two weeks on getting all the cool stuff I could. That's still less than what I spent a month. Love the idea of this being a hobby. Goes along with my homebrewing hobby. I just enjoyed the ritual too much and the nic fix too much to ever give it up entirely. So vaping is such an easy substitution for me. The flavors make it a no-brainer for me.

Well as an addict in recovery I might add. I have an addictive nature and OCD as well. As an ex-tweaker I am always in search of more vapor and now more flavor.. rebuildables here I come... I buy the latest and greatest and sometimes jump the gun (Zmax v1).. now have a V2 and ProVari and Vmax... While I have cut my nicotine down to 12 mg I have a heavy vapor... I vape for the flavor now and the hobby.

I guess it depends on your personality, i make a hobby out of everything I do, I got my first Jeep a couple of years ago and made that into a hobby, and i guess the whole analog cigarette and cigars also were a hobby, I now have made vaping my main hobby and I love it. I didn't intend to stop smoking all together I was just going to "try" them but with the whole gadget, gear tech specifications and variety of flavors it sucked me in, I stopped smoking for good and I'm vaping all the time, buying gear, mixing juices, testing different equipment etc, definitely a hobby I wont leave soon.

I've been vaping for about 2 months now. I've read and known about Ecig for awhile now. One day while watching some Ecig review I said, "F it," I'm doing this. After a few days I didn't even want a analog. I like my vaping much more. So then it all started. I wanted that all day good vape. Time to read and watch more. Now I'm hooked. I'm a tinker type of person and love playing around with new mods. I don't go mod crazy like others but I have tried pretty much each type of mod. I picked out the styles that I like then looked for better versions of that style of mod. Now I'm trying to chase down some of the classic mods that really are not made anymore. That's been difficult. Welcome to the vaping community and soon congrats on quitting the analogs!!!

Interesting question, interesting variety of answers, and for me, interesting timing. I've been perusing this forum for a few days looking for clues to help me decide between a purple vision spinner with a pretty tube and tank or a lavatube that looks to me a lot like..something you might use in a bedroom with your husband only bigger. I've gotten sidetracked by pretty engraved twists (but I can't see the markings on them so functionally they aren't that good for me) and lusted over the provaris. I know for me a lavatube is likely to be the most logical choice right now of what I can afford, but every time I've been ready to hit the checkout button I've had guilt feelings about the cost..and this thread has been helpful to remind me of how silly that it.
I smoked 3 PAD for most of 40 years, with a 6 year smoking quit in there sometime ago. I've never quit nicotine for long, and don't plan to.This is with my doctor's approval, as total cessation of nicotine has repeatedly proved to severely increase my ocd/add/depression. I used nrt the entire six years of my first analog quit. I didn't get into vaping as a hobby for sure..but I have severe health issues- including now COPD- and had to quit smoking. (I didn't have to on my previous quit, was just tired of the smell and the taste) I found myself missing the hand mouth stuff so badly I bought some Newport 100's despite knowing that smoking them was literally killing me. In desperation I tried some njoys, which pretty well sucked but did turn the lightbulb in my head on long enough to get online and find out about real vaping. I bought a couple of kgos, and then a kgo vv and a ton of different juices and oh snap! I don't want to buy Newports anymore! For me, this is *better* than smoking. I get the throat hit and the hand mouth fulfillment without killing myself, without the smell in my house and it tastes so much better! Guilt about buying stuff? Let's not even go into the co-pays and that..at 22$ a day or more for my cigarette habit, I can hardly NOT spend less. I'm not frivolous, I'll choose function over form if needs be, and I'm not in the position to collect Provaris.. but I do imagine I will find a way to make my lavatube or whatever I end up getting look as attractive as I can and I know I want to try out different tanks and such. I've seen people's collections, especially some of the girls with all the sweet looking pink things, and if I could afford to have that all I could definitely see doing it! Strikes me that there are much, much worse hobbies one could have. :p

I say you can't go wrong with the vision spinner or the lava tube. I have the big battery ego upgrade as well as other stuff I collected in the past two years. At present I like using a spinner with a mini vivi nova tank atomizer. Its easy, not too expensive, easy to carry. I use this all day long without problems. I smoked for 30 years, and really just wanted to "slow down a bit" turns out I quit smoking altogether. Been tobacco free for two years +. Good luck, and hit the button....nothing to feel guilty about

No insult intended, I was trying to make (what I thought, obvisously I was wrong:facepalm:) outrageous comparison based on the looks I get from people while vaping my device in public.

As for only having 3 posts my inexperince is why this happened, not used to censoring of this kind. Not to say they shouldn't, they should and I should.

I appologize will not happen again.

Posting in gereral is hard to convey my sarcastic self efacing type of humor and speach pattern. Will make more use of smileys to help with intended inflection.

It started for me as a safer alternative to tobacco. I came into this knowing I would probably vape from then on but has turned into a rewarding hobby. I dont go crazy buying everything under the sun but the stuff I have I am proud of and I like tinkering with vape stuff. Anything to keep my hands and mind busy is a win-win for me.

I just recently found out about this huge world of ecigs and all the gear that's available . Boggles my mind .
I am presently a 1/2 PAD smoker, my quit date is Nov. 12 , the day after we get home from the Dominican Republic .;)
My plan is to start using 18mg nic and slowly start reducing the nic level until i'm at zero , at that point i'm hoping to quit that too .
I have a very basic Electro Vapours 510 torch and extras of everything , fits the bill perfectly for me .
I can't believe the amount of people that actually make a hobby out of this and the equipment that some folks have .
I am not passing judgement on anyone , just curious if you folks with all the latest stuff and piles of vaping gear started out thinking like me and you created a monster along the way or was it initially your intention to have a new hobby .

I am never going to give up nicotine. I know this and except it. Their are a lot of ways of getting that Nicotine and so far vapeing is both fun and enjoyable for me.
