Like many others I'm sure, I started vaping because I wanted to quit smoking. Unfortunately, I started smoking in middle school and it stuck with me off and on for years. I finally decided to start vaping because I'm too dang young to be coughing, hacking, and losing my breath every time I try to do something physical.

However, what I didn't know at the time was that vaping is such a fantastic hobby! After I got sick of my Blu, I researched and researched and got an 808 ego kit. After I decided I wanted an even better vape than my beloved ego, I researched again and got my first VAMO and a protank. After that, things changed.

Suddenly I'm lurking the ECF forums, reading reviews, watching videos, doing everything I can to figure out how the hell I can get a better vape. "Chasin' that perfect vape" as a friend of mine always used to put it. Next thing I know, I've got an AGA-T2 and I'm wrapping coils, rebuilding heads, blah blah blah, ect, ect...

Basically, after I got my hands on a real big boy mod, it instantly became something I loved to do. Trying juices, building coils, and experimenting with everything I got my hands on became one of the most enjoyable things I did with my time. Thus, a hobbyist was born.

So more to the point: Are you a hobbyist? What do you like about it? How did you become that way? Are we crazy?

I'm a mechanical mind. Actually, mechanic by trade. Recently, in the last 3 years, I've put up the wrenches and started selling parts. Getting dirty doesn't pay as well as it should.

I put down the smokes about a month ago now and started vaping. Last week, I bought some kanthal and cotton and started recoiling and wicking my own heads.

Today, I bought 40 bucks worth of DIY juice supplies. I'm not sure how much my wife loves my new hobby but she loves that I'm not smoking and that I have something to do while it's cold and I can't go motorcycling.

I suppose I could start building models again but, this is more fun and less sticky. Plus, it gives me a sense of satisfaction in creating something I can use rather than just taking up space.

I think the "hobby" aspect is one of the reasons this has worked for me where other nrt did not. When I started, I really just wanted something that was like a cigarette. I researched some ahead of time, and decided to skip that and I got an ego. It seemed HUGE, and very obnoxiously obvious, and I felt somewhat foolish carrying that giant thing around... Oh how things have changed lol.

The hobby aspect gives me something to think about and occupy my mind with. Ecf gives me a place to talk about all of this with other people who are excited about it, and not JUST trying to quit smoking. And Vapemail...Vapemail is the oil that keeps all of these gears turning smoothly. lol Love the vapemail!

Also note that my girlfriend says I collect hobbies. Ask me about my Jeep, Photography, music, camping, skatebording, bikes, windsurfing, aquarium gear. Then ask me why I can't fit two cars in the garage! lol

I started with green smart living. Hated it. Stopped went back to ciggertetts. I got a new car and decided I did not want it smelling bad and just so happenes a new vape store had just opened up. Went down there and got an ego set up. Because I liked it so much I started doing research which led me here. I think if it had not been for this forum and all the learning I did I would have gone back to smoking. I get bored easily and this becoming a hobby just makes me want to do it even more.

Unfortunately, I burned a hole in the seat of the new car. (Wrangler, and I had the top down.) I'm still grateful for that little burn hole, because it was the final kick I needed to try all of this.

I did not intentionally want this to be a hobby.

I just wanted something to help me quit smoking....and be as convenient as having a lighter and a pack of cigs in my pocket.

The fact of the matter is, vaping was not as enjoyable nor as convenient as smoking to me (37 years) and the equiptment we use is just not perfect, which has led me to buy and try and buy and try and so forth and so on.

At this point, I guess most of you would consider me a Hobbyist.

Ive gone from an 8.00 ego to a 300.00 Semovar and many, many in between (yes ProVari's also..still use them)
Ive gone from Clearo's to Protanks to cartos to RBA's to close to a dozen Kayfun Type tanks
I have over 120 DIY flavorings and all that is associated with the ability to make any juice that you can purchase anywhere.
I go to vape seminars and gatherings weekly ans even teach others coil building/DIY and problem solving.

All this and I still dont consider this as a hobby. I just want my Vape to be the best It can possibly be and I like to share with others the mistakes Ive made and a better way to do things.

PS. Thanks to you folks out there and these forums I am able to do all of this.

1) I'm a tinkerer. I could build coils for hours :p
2) I enjoy the sense of creative freedom. There are new coils, wicking styles, atomizers, mods, batteries etc... coming out at rapid rates.
3) I also enjoy that it is a social hobby and is versatile. I can vape while I skate, while I drive (safely of course), when I'm making music, when I'm at the computer, etc...

Vaping is a beautiful little gemstone we've found:)

I'm not really the coil-tinkering kind of vaping hobbyist. I like my gear to be as low maintenance as possible.

I do, however, like to keep a good eye on what's going on in the vaping world. New wicking materials, new coil building techniques, new atties, new mods, etc. That part of it is closely resembling a hobby for me. Even if I don't enjoy building new coils on my atties every few days and trying out the stuff I read about, I do enjoy that some people enjoy it :)

I fly RC helis during the summer, but I don't really have any good winter hobbies. So I guess I spend more money on the odd piece of new gear, and my forum surfing goes from heli forums to vaping forums. I am sure that once spring comes again, all my "new shiny vaping gear" budget will be spent towards "new shiny heli upgrades".

I get as much enjoyment in searching and researching for the "next ultimate purchase" as I get from actually buying stuff. So, I don't buy a lot, but I like to believe I buy good stuff when I do.
