Holding wick while wrapping a coil

I've been looking into getting a soldering stand to hold my wick taught while I wrap a coil around it. I think it would make wrapping the coil much easier and I would end up with a much better coil.

Is this a good idea? Should I be wrapping my wick differently?

This is what I've been using,
Kanthal 28-32
Ekowool Hollow/Threaded 1-3mm

I've been putting it in an IGO-L.

I wrap my coils around a 1/16 tube, or small drill bit if I need smaller, then I thread the wick through the coil with a twisting motion to keep it from unraveling

I wrap my coils around a straight paperclip, toothpick, syringe needle etc. That's really all you need.

I stick a sewing pin through my wick and hold the pin while I wrap a coil. Actually use the pin to hold and maneuver the wrapped unit until after it is attached then withdraw the pin.
