Back to the "age old" question of "how much nicotine am I getting from my ecig vs my analog" .......

I was wondering if anyone knows of a home style test that will give you a blood level of nicotine ??? I am a nurse and will research this myself, but if anyone happens to know of such a test, let me know and I won't waste my time.

FYI, ther is a "rapid home test" that will show IF you have nicotine in you blood. It's sort of like a drug test and can be purchased for about $10 in the drugstore. But, it only shows IF you have nicotine.....and not HOW HIGH the nicotine level is.

This would be an interesting test to perform and would answer the elusive questions about ecig vs analog comprability.

THanks

Forget this silly question already. It's been answered many times.

Did you worry smoking analogs? Why not?

They manufacture ejuice in a large variety of strengths. Simply find the one that suits you and enjoy.

I agree with you Kreel. Why is it that when people are smoking cancer causing analogs there is no rush to measure nicotine, etc but with PV's there is all this concern?

I really don't understand the negative replies here. Most people use e-cigs as a way to be healthier, so what is so wrong about someone wanting to monitor their use of the only bad thing in the e-cig?

I'm not looking to start a debate on nicotine and health, I know in monitored amounts it is shown to have no ill effects. But I truly believe that you guys are being rude over an extremely innocent request.

It's not about being rude at all. It's about anyone who was an analog smoker worrying about the amount of nicotine that they need. Nicotine wears off so fast, that to actually OD on the levels available to us, you would have to chuff on two screwdrivers and a GG simultaneously non-stop for over an hour. Now how stupid is that?

There are enough noobs that frequent this board that might actually believe that there is a danger of killing themselves vaping because of some innocent sounding thread like this one dealing in fear mongering.

Give this subject a rest while you go and re-read the dozens of others just like it. This topic simply insults the intelligence of those that realize it's a joke.

NOTE: to Joann: no disrespect was intended. Please continue to ask any question you want. It's just that we have seen soooooooooo many "is vaping safe?" posts from noobs that considering that they have smoked for years, it just gets old and defies logic to many of us. And then it just leads to more "scary" posts and on and on and on.............

Separate? That's not an option. They are as addicted to nicotine as we are. Smoking is legal, hence no need to separate from them at all.

Too much hysteria is being promulgated. Nicotine has already been deemed non-carcinogenous. PG has been deemed harmless. Why would they ban vaping? Simply because we are enjoying ourselves in a safe way?...or are you trying to make it look somehow UNSAFE?

Before you go sparking up the ban-wagon again, just wait and see what happens. Surely you have other questions about vaping that you can concentrate on. This subject has been laid to rest many times already.

Perhaps the OP wasnt necessarily afraid or concerned about their nicotine levels, but rather curious.

I have read many articles that "theorize" that on a drag per drag basis the PV delivers less Nic than analogues.

Seeing how JoAnnas post count is only 50, and she specifically said in her post that this was simply for curiosity and comparibility measures.... I think the responses she received could turn off a new member to asking queestions in an open forum.

No where in her post did she say she was concerned, scared of ecigs killing her, or questioning the safety of her ecig.

Just my personal opinion.

Safe Travels...

True to form in so many of your posts on this forum …. You are caustic, negative, not helpful and tend to jump to a response without much thought as to the reason for a question.
If you think the question is silly, why do you waste time responding to it ??
Get another hobby and quit putting people down for asking honest questions and realize that NO ONE will hold it against you if you just keep quiet when you don’t have anything positive to contribute.

And yes, I am well aware there are many links to every subject/question on this forum. But with such a specific request for information, I simply do not have the time to sort through all the links.

Now … relieved of steam … let me clarify the reason for this question.
I am IN NO WAY concerned about the “safety” of ecigs vs. analogs.
I am interested in the science of the effect of nicotine in the body and the addiction/habit of smoking.
Why ?? Because, I hope to use the ecigs to eventually quit smoking by slowly scaling back on vaping or nicotine content.

Cigarette smoking if FULL of variables ranging from the brand smoked, brand nicotine content, the smokers style of smoking/inhaling, the “hand-to-mouth” habit satisfaction, etc.
All of these factors figure into nicotine levels in the body and the “comfort” of the “smoker or quitter.”

Among the many things I’m curious to know is:
1) Are the ecigs I’m using giving me the same nicotine levels as the analogs I smoked, even though I seem to inhale differently and get different levels of “vape” with each draw?
2) Since vaping is so much more convenient that smoking, am I “over smoking” and getting more nicotine than I did with analogs?
These questions could be easily answered if you could measure actual nicotine levels.

Additionally, as vaping is a “new science,” many prospective vapers, curious smokers and disgusted non-smokers, etc., will have questions about how similar vs. dissimilar the “nicotine habit” is. It would be nice to have some “hard-core, scientific information” regarding my own personal experience with both.

And FYI, Keel, I do not work for the FDA but I do have a research nursing background.

Maybe done to death for you....but not for others...If this post bores you then don't answer it.....:(

This is a wonderful site. It has a search feature and everything. Imagine that.

I guess if there is such a test, the government will get the bright idea that it knows better than we how much nicotine we need.

Is there a test for how much caffeine is in your blood? Honestly, who cares?

This is highly suspicious. A 'research nurse' should know already that vaping is healthier than smoking. She should be asking about how many drops fill a cart like every other noob.

Yeah, the FDA has feelers out alright. They have absolutely zero power unless they can prove that vapers are abusing nicotine more than a regular marlboro smoker. This is ridiculous on it's face

EDIT -- vaping nicotine is a replacement for something far worse. The FDA is looking for claims being made that it is a smoking cessation device. To my knowledge it isn't. Nicotine is just as addictive vaping as it is smoking. We just don't get all the carcinogens. It's a personal choice if you wish it to be such, and good luck with that. Please don't try to draw nicotine hooked vapers into a thread about quitting. We aren't quitters.
