It reminds me a lot of the early days of the INTERNET - I recall a time when it was all bulletin boards and text -
A time when I had ACTUALLY seen EVERY site that there was to see -
Then graphical browsers came about and the INTERNET became available to the masses - Many of my friends from the infancy of cyber-space treated the newcomers like outsiders or buffoons who had no business being there and were going to "ruin it" for the "RIGHTFUL" citizens of cyberspace - As a pioneer in e-commerce - I was shocked by this - I have been equally shocked by this same mentality rearing it's head on this board - Just because you came to something first - Does not give you dominion over it nor does it mean that the opinions and observations of newcomers are to be ignored or ridiculed - Often it is the fresh set of eyes that present the most astounding and innovative developments - The pioneers often can't see the forest for the trees - - I had a site on-line and selling product daily at a time when Bill Gates was doing TV interviews stating "It will be 15-20 years before people shop on-line" - To all the e-cig pioneers -We thank you for your baby-steps - But as this thing goes GLOBAL - You should welcome newcomers and their questions with open arms - As with cyberspace - They will be the ones to shape the future -

There are no stupid questions - but - sadly- there are often stupid answers - tests are great - still- it is more important that you listen to your body - each person is unique in how the body reacts to any given substance - a test is a helpful guide - even when one is 99% sure of conception having occurred - one still tests for it rather than waiting for birth as a conformation - :)

I just ordered a TobacAlert kit, it cost me about $20, but I don't care. If it tells me what I want to see, it will be worth it, one way or the other. These are also available on eBay for $20+change.
It does measure the cotinine ng/ml in urine, so will be very anxious to get it. I think it is just one strip, not sure about that (it is). With some shopping around there may be others cheaper and more test strips, but don't have the time right now to look. (found none)
Will let everyone know the results. (Unless it's BAD) no, will be honest about it. If it also tells me I'm pregnant, the WHOLE WORLD will know!

EDIT: An added note, these tests are probably as reliable as any regarding the amount of nicotine being circulated from vaping. They use a standard measure (cotinine level) which is by-product of nicotine passed through the system into urine. I for one am interested in the level in my body, and get an idea (although I am not going to spend a day smoking 3 packs of cigarettes!) of whether or not vaporized nicotine juice (I know the strength I'm using) is more substantial in my system or less, this test will tell me if I am right. I feel my nicotine level is much lower than when I smoked analogs. (jittery, hunger, etc.) If this is true, I feel much more comfortable in advising friends and relatives to think about switching to e-cigs. Many thanks to Tom09 for the help, thanks to Joanna for the inspiration.

This is the thread for the Eisenberg test for Ruyan:

Of course, this would be very general information, specific to me and my habits -one smoker but it would be good general information and interesting.

    Hi Joanna,
I’m all with you. This simple test could yield good general information and is certainly worth a try. I had the links on my desktop, because I was thinking along similar lines. The retail consumer price just stalled me a bit. Well, it’s not really expensive, but I decided to support the ecig hardware industry instead . You may not necessarily have to pay the retail price, if you (or someone on your behalf) could wave an academic affiliation and credentials. Test producers may be happy to find their product in a scientific environment and eager to send samples for evaluation. And who could know at an initial stage, if some low-budged, pilot study won’t turn into something substantial ;-). Anyway, will be highly interested to read about what transpires.
    All the best,
    Tom

Not that I want you to smoke 3 packs of analogs - But - How will you know how it compares if you do not?

"whether or not vaporized nicotine juice (I know the strength I'm using) is more substantial in my system or less,"

More or less than what? - Different MG's of Juice?

I guess you have a point there...geez, I don't know if I could stand that.
But with that test, if it tests low I will be thrilled, if it doesn't then I would have to do a comparison. The info for cigarettes is known, though, so I would have to do the math to estimate what the number would be.
With atomizing nicotine, there are no knowns, so far, except for the Ruyan testing done in New Zealand. Three packs of cigarettes would be approx 1500-2000 ng/ml. I'm hoping this test will run 300-400 ng/ml(heavy vaping). And you're right, my liquid is 24mg/ml. My test would be a lot different than someone who's only doing 11mg/ml.
So if my test is high, I would want to either lower nicotine concentration, which wouldn't be a problem, or not vape as much, which would be a problem, that might make me a little grumpy! I have a feeling however that the cotinine level will be lower than expected, based on the NZ tests.
That would be great. I just want to know.

Scientific, this is not. This could give some indications of something to the OP, but that is inconclusive at best. The simple differences from day to day in one person's body would be enough to rule out any consistant analysis, and would certainly rule out any coherent analysis for vapers in general (since we all have different bodies).

Nice! I think that has been noted, this would be a personal test.
Certainly would not want to speak on your behalf. Coherent now?

Cool - Thanks - Was just curious - Also curious about where those nicotine in analog figures come from - The highest figue that I have ever seen is 2.4mg in One Analog - 20 in a pack x 3 = 60
    60*2.4=144mg. - you got 1500-2000mg - From where?

So what will her test mean to you, bones. Please explain. How about you, K51? What will her test mean to you?

Kreel, When I smoked 3 packs of cigarettes a day, had I taken the TobacAlert test, it would have shown that the by-product of nicotine = Cotinine in my urine would have measured as I stated from 1500-2000ng/ml.
Now that I am vaping, I do not know what the measure of cotinine in my urine is. I want to know, is vaping "cleaner" in all aspects, or am I fooling myself. We also know from The Ruyan tests which Kate The Order of the Wholey Technofoggers posted on ECF a few months ago, that the nicotine (or for purposes of keeping consistant with the test) cotinine level should be about 1/10th the amount of cigarette smoking.
CHECK THREAD:Nicotine absorbtion from Vaping Research
That is what I am going to try to verify for my own satisfaction. If anyone is interested in those results, I would be happy to post the result, even though it is quite personal . This will be my result. But if the result is consistant with the Ruyan test, I think that would be a really good piece of information. Whether you agree or disagree with that theory is not relevant to me, however the test result would be highly valuable to a person like me who wants to find useful information that I can verify for myself and feel as though this whole ordeal has been worth the trouble and criticism.

Nothing - It's not my test - I just happened upon it and was curious -The point is that it means something to HER -
That's HER body and HER business -

The other point is this - You Sir - are RUDE!

Now you are trying to start with me? How about not coming here if it bothers you? - You feel it is your place to tell her she is wrong to want to do it? - The only reason you seem to be here is to hassle her about HER test - Do you have nothing better to do? -

Oh! Wait - West Texas? - No - I guess not! There is nothing to do there!

Let me give you one bit of advice - Do not start with me - say you are sorry for being so rude and move on -
No - matter of fact - JUST MOVE ON - and treat people with a little respect - a thing that you are fast losing from me - :D

I think it's great and can't wait to hear the results, but are you saying, Kate, that you got the 1500-2000 figure from the NZ study or from the test instructions or where? I'd love it if you wanted to smoke analogues and test that, too, but I know that's out. :)
No, that figure came from a cotinine research paper, cotinine being the by-product of nicotine abosorbtion through the kidneys, where 1 pack of cigarettes (full flavor) would give you a cotinine in urine test result of 1000ng/ml. using a test for example the TobacAlert, which measures cotinine levels in urine.
Since adding more cigarettes does not follow a linear path, for instance 2 packs would=2000ng/ml, it is instead approximately 1500ng/ml, so three packs approx 2000ng/ml cotinine. That is known from testing. I want to know the cotinine level from nicotine in vapor form. From the Ruyan testing of plasma (blood) the level would be about 1/10th the amount absorbed from cigarettes. I have been vaping a consistant amount for a few weeks, I think now would be a good time to test to see if it is indeed around that level, 1/10th that of smoking. Which I think would be really nice if I knew I was on 1/10th the nicotine I was ingesting before while smoking tobacco. If it is more, to adjust my intake I would have to lower the mg/ml nicotine density of my juice. The fact that I stopped smoking right away with the e-cig would suggest I am getting more nicotine than that. But that's the question I want answered, just FMI

So the 'test' is merely a circus act. You are only curious. Interesting.

    A circus act? Only curious?

Without curiosity people wouldn't strive to learn, or reach into the 'unknown' to widen their world. Without curiosity most advances in all fields would never happen. Only a closed mind would mock curiosity.

Bones is right - you are rude.

Okay, now I understand. I wasn't sure if you had explained where the info came from and I missed it or what. This should be interesting because even though I got my first e-cig basically just to keep from fighting with ashes and such while I'm working on the computer, I ended up smoking this all the time by accident (basically the very first day). I wasn't necessarily planning to quit smoking. My first thought would have been that I'm getting far more nicotine than before, but at this point I really don't think that's true. Now if someone could just figure out why it was so easy to switch...
