I love cartomizers. I've been vaping for 14 months and use them exclusively with rarely a problem.

I'd been trying the horizontal coils, for the last few months. I bought boxes from different vendors at different times. Each time I tried one, it had an "off" taste to me. That "off" taste was there from each carto, unrelated to vendor or liquid. It is not a dry hit, or burnt taste.

I tried cleaning them before use, still the taste was there. I autopsied each carto I tried... some had signs of singe, but others looked new. I became very familiar with that taste, and it started to make me nauseous.
Each time I tried a horizontal coil, I felt worse than the time before. I've given up on them.

I think I may be sensitive or allergic to the adhesive used in them, or something used exclusively in horizontals, as I have no problem at all with vertical coils!

My reason for posting is for information purposes. I'd like to find out if anyone else is having or has had the same problem with horizontal coils.

After over a year in this community, I doubt it's only me, but I won't know without asking.
Thanks for reading. :)
Nat.

PS. I syringe fill my cartos, let them to sit at least 8 hours, and check to be sure they're slushy before use. I top off early and often.
I either clean or discard a carto after running 3ml to 5ml of liquid through it, depending on the liquid. I use different ratios of PG/VG... 80/20, 70/30, and 50/50.

I use both 808's and 510's. My PV's are kr808, eGo, Riva 510, Riva 901, VGO 808, and VGO/LUX 510.

Nope I am in the same boat Nat. The horizontal coil cartos never hit the spot for me. There is something (no matter which ones and I tried many) that just does not taste right. I think it may have something to do with draw type. I draw heavy and long (about 6-7 secs). I wonder if you do the same??? Anyway I believe the horizontal coils just can not wick fast enough for that type of draw. Besides I have sort of come acccustomed to the nice snapping and popping of a verticle coil!!! Over the last few months I have tried a handful of additional horizontal coil cartos from various Supplliers and they have all underperformed versus vert coil. I am partial to the Iken Fusions, Iken V2's and of course the Boge LR 2.0. Hope that helps and happy vapes

Hey Ski, try the horizontals on a juice
fed or in a tank if you haven't already. I know exactly what you are talking about but found that they are pretty good on a device that can keep the coil wet. I did have to drill a hole at the base to use one on my Reo as the draw was too tight. Don't know if I'd buy em again because of the airflow, but they can be made to work well. Good luck

No, you're not the only one. I had similar experience with this latest crop of horizontal cartos. As a matter of fact, I can't use any of them anymore because they all taste off to me.

Interestingly, I used other horizontal-coil cartos in the past, 4081 (SmokeStik and Trueman) and SLB 510, for example, and never had that problem.

And here's another person who seems to be having the same issue!

Hey, I figured I'd chime in and give my thoughts on the matter. I just tried the Kanger Horizontal Coil 2.0 ohm Cartos for the first time today. I'm using them on my Phidias at 5v and they're fantastic. I don't notice any off-taste nor are my flavors muted. I don't like an airy draw but I still wouldnt consider these tight. I havent had a chance to try them on anything else yet because theyre so damn good in the Phid. So, as far as bottom-feeders go these are a win in my book.

Kanger's are HORRIBLE. I can't get past the "off" taste as you've described. Plus I hate the draw on them. No thanks. I'll stick with Boge, Ikenvape, or CCV's resurrectors for most of my PV's. Grant it, I have a bunch of others but I like the ones I listed on certain PV's. The Kanger's need to redo their filler and remove the chemical taste from them. I've only encountered this one other time but pga got rid of it and now they're great. I've never been able to do it with Kangers.

Really??? Maybe I just have a non-discerning palate because I'm enjoying them, lol. I just ordered some resurrectors Monday so I'll be trying those out by Friday hopefully. I hear those things are extremely nice. I'm also gonna give 306 atties one last shot before I give up on em all together. Not so much because I like 306s, though. I just love those Cannon driptips and 306s are the only thing they'll fit on, lol.

I've tested a ton of cartos, taken them apart, etc. The plan was to see if I could determine the design differences and the effect they had on taste. Well my plan failed.

Sometimes I'd find two with a nearly identical design but a big difference in taste. Leads me to believe it is the type of polyfill material being used, the metal of the coil, or both. I've also noticed that how tightly the polyfill is wrapped makes a difference too. Some are packed tight and it takes longer to refill. Put in two drops and wait a little bit. Others, like Boges, are a little looser and fill very easily as they soak up the juice quickly.

So the differences are very subtle but seem to have a big net effect.

I actually much prefer horizontal coil (Volt's my current favorite) - but I think it's really important to get sufficient juice in, as the fill is tighter. I use Taryn spin and at least 30 drops to start, and keep 'em wet; no bad taste except when I filled using other methods. I think the flavor's really muted down with Boges.

I'm having the same problems - well, nearly. I can fill the Kanger cartos until they are saturated, leave them overnight - everything, but I get five or six good draws off them, then they seem to start to get a slight burnt taste - not too much, but enough for me to think they are running dry.
The filler is definately different material. It seems looser and more spongey, and I've noticed a tendency for fluid to come out the little holes when over filled (not the centre hole). This seems to happen often when it's not too overfilled and I'm putting the cap back on.
It's a shame. I like the drag, and the taste is okay for me, until the fifth or six hit, when it starts to taste like it's drying out and burning.

I just want to clarify that my problem is related to something in ALL horizontals I've tried, including Volts, MF, etc., not just Kanger.
With each subsequent use, I became more sensitized, to the point of becoming ill. Back to vertical coils, everything is fine.

Thank you to all who've replied. :)
