Electric Cigarette Explodes in a Man's Face

Give them a piece of your mind along with some facts. Given the coverage of this event by Mario Angular (maguilar@gizmodo.com), I'm having a hard time believing any of their articles reflect reality accurately.

Didn't seem to make much of an impression with the readers there. They're all commenting about boobies right now.

Yes comment on this you don't even have to log in.

My comment:

The FDA has never said the electronic cigerrettes are bad for you health. It has said it doesn't know if they are safe. Nor does anyone else know that they are bad for you.
We do know that they contain far less harmfull chamicals than cancer stticks. Millions of people are using them and no one has ever died, gotten lung cancer or heart diseas. from vaping electronic cigaretts. We also know that it is the most effective way to quit smoking.

I do not believe that ethical journalism exists in the real world. Just like democracy,
it's just an idea/theory, but in practice....good luck
Ethical journalism ????
Oh, yea...I remember reading about that in an old history book.
No longer popular or considered to be "Politically Correct"

Ha ha, for some reason those are "featured" commentators. If you hit "all" you'll see more posts. Some are good and informative and reality based and others indicate people believe his bad reporting and others have been scared off from ever trying e-cigs by this "report".

Gismondo seem to have taken this from The Daily Mail a paper so notorious it nickname is the daily wail.
It was bound to happen, whats most laughable is that they say this incident has been added to a database to see if anything like happened before. See, apples battery explosions forgotten already. And nokia and any amount of others.

Well the Daily Mail showed up near the top of the list when I did a search on Google, so I sent them a copy of the press release the minute I finished it late last night. We can only hope that The Daily Mail will run a followup and Gizmodo will pick up on it.

BTW, if some version of this story has showed up in your local media, you can write a Letter to the Editor, which actually might have a higher chance of getting published than a press release.

There should be instructions on the paper's web site on the maximum length, which can vary from of 200 words up to about 350. Keep the tone even-tempered. Try reading it aloud to see that the ideas flow and there are no complicated sentences.

Have someone proof-read your letter to spot any typos or grammatical errors. Every writer can use a good proof-reader! Even the best. Except maybe Isaac Asimov, who claimed in his biographyI, Asimov, that his writing never needed any editing. Uh-huh.

Oops. My secret is out. I am a classic science fiction buff. Favorite writers: Asimov and Heinlein.

Yep, the article is crap, pure-dee crap. Looks like every hack with a column feels the need to jump all over this, no matter how ignorant they are. What ever happened to ethics in journalism? Being reasonably sure of one's facts? Oh, right, it's the internet... my bad.

Facts? We dont need no stinking facts if it bleeds it leads.;)

"The Food and Drug Administration posted a warning about the cigarettes on its website in October, saying that e-cigarettes were "highly addictive," could contain dangerous chemicals like nicotine and might encourage kids to try other tobacco products.

In 2010, the FDA sent letters to some e-cigarette makers for violations of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act including "violations of good manufacturing practices, making unsubstantiated drug claims and using the devices as delivery mechanisms for active pharmaceutical ingredients," according to the FDA website."

This quote is from cbs.com article on the explosion- Electronic cigarette explodes in man's mouth, causes serious injuries - HealthPop - CBS News. I resent the scare tactics. The explosion wasn't bad enough but the FDA is now saying e-cigs are highly addictive. From personal experience I know this to be not true.
