Hello:

I have a Provari V2 with a Kanger Pro tank, and everything has been pretty good these first few weeks.

However, just a few days ago, I started tasting this incredibly horrible, burnt metallic taste while vaping. It occurs with any flavor I try, from 4 different vendors, so it is not the e-liquid.

It has also happened @ pretty much any volt level I try...4.0, 4.2, 4.9....all across the board.

I have 2.5 ohm heads for the Pro Tank, so they should be able to handle those voltages, right?

The taste is not subtle. It is beyond disgusting, and so strong. It consumes the entire flavor...not just a hint of it, but the full flavor is this gut-wrenching taste.

The Provari head/heater/coil thing smells exactly like what the flavor tastes like, and it is enough to almost make me sick.

I did spill a bit of caramel e-juice down into the provari coil (thing that heats up, not sure if it is called a coil) recently...could this be it?

Should I send it back to be fixed? Or is this a problem that someone could help me with here?

Also, is there a chance that this odor means my Provari is damaged beyond repair?

Thanks so much in advance.

Oh also, I'd like to add that I searched the internet for an answer to this, and I could only find people who said they tasted a slight metal taste that some people even said they enjoyed. This is most definitely NOT the same issue as theirs, as what I am tasting is the equivalent to smoking a crankshaft.

If you've spilled / leaked juice from the PT to the connection on your Provari (or any battery), it can impact the flow of current. Worst case, no vape. It might not be that bad, still making an electrical connection, but acting as an inline resistor. As it burns off, it could be producing the bad taste.

With the battery off, use a cotton swab dipped in alcohol to thoroughly clean the connection on the mod. Give it time to completely dry, and try again.

You also say that it happens with several juices and have ruled out the juice as the cause. But did you dis-assemble the PT and clean it before changing juice? Could be something funky has happened inside the PT. Can you try a different topper? (I.e. another PT, some other clearo...) I've heard reports of people burning the silicone seals from too high a wattage, although I haven't had that happen. If that's the case, a new head/coil assembly might do the trick.

First I would take the Protank off the Provari, take the battery out and look inside the tube to see if there is anything obviously wrong with it. Clean the entire Provari with rubbing alcohol (inside tube & at the 510 connection) and check your battery for any obvious defect. Next take apart the protank and look at the coil/replace coil and clean it. If you leaked juice down into the circuitry of the Provari it probably wouldn't even fire, and there is nothing inside the Provari that would heat that juice up. If you have another device, attach the Protank to it and see if anything changes, or if you have another tank, put it on the Provari and see if problem persists.

Same problem here, OP. I watched a fresh batch of juice in a clean PT turn black (literally watched a black cloud take over the tank), and the taste go NASTY. I figured out that voltage above 3.7 was the culprit. However, even at lower voltages, the taste just stops coming through. I've stopped completely filling my PT, as these go bad at about half-way through a tank. I'm thinking of switching to a carto tank, as folks here say that's how you get the best taste.

OP, you say you have been using this setup for a few weeks. Have you been using the same coil head that came in your ProTank the whole time? .......It might be time to try changing the head in your ProTank.

Your problem is almost certainly not with the ProVari and is almost certainly with your ProTank coil head.

Here's what you need to do, in this order:
1 - change the head in your ProTank.
2 - using isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol (preferably 91 or 99%) take a q-tip and clean the center pin and threads on the 510 connection on both your ProVari and the bottom of your ProTank.
3 - try re-attaching your ProTank (with its new coil head and filled with juice) to your ProVari. See how it vapes. If its better, problem solved! If not, come back here and let us know. At that point, you may have to contact ProVape.

I think I'm in the minority, but my Protanks don't handle high voltage very well. I end up dialing down a 2.5Ω head to around 4.0v with a juice I vape at 9 watts in my bottom-feeders.

Yeah. For me, it's the same with all the Kanger BCCs and ProTanks. You can't really push the stock heads much above 7.5 watts or so without getting dry-ish, burny hits. I think that they just can't wick fast enough to keep up.

Now, with a good rebuilt coil and wick you can really crank your voltage/wattage and get some pretty darn good flavor and vapor.

Hey all:

So sorry for going MIA on this post.

I ended up trying out dripping with my 510 Atomizer to see if the problem resided in the ProTank or in the Provari.

Turned out, I loved the flavor and smoke output from dripping so much better than I put the ProTank aside and haven't touched it since!

I did try cleaning the Protank, as well as the heads (I have about 7 heads, some only used once), and I was still getting the taste. I will try some of the other suggestions you guys had for me and get back to you once I find out the verdict.

Thanks so much for all of your help!

I used about 4.2v with a 2.5ohm coil on my Provari, now I use 1.8 or 2.2ohm coils. Thus making the voltage either 3.8v or 4.0v
