Because the real goal of the ANTZ is to drive tobacco companies out of business and restrict nicotine intake to FDA-approved nicotine weaning products, misleadingly named "nicotine replacement therapy." "Weaning" is a more accurate term because they have no intention of providing a permanent replacement of nicotine.

This explains why the signs that used to read "Smoke-free Zone" have morphed into "tobacco-free Zone" and why "smoking-related diseases" are now inaccurately referred to as "tobacco-related diseases." And have you also noticed that the phrase "tobacco use" has replaced the word "smoking" when the government, and now the media, discusses the 400,000+ annual deaths?

The ANTZ know the research shows that smokeless tobacco use does not cause or promote cancer, nor cause heart attacks or strokes. And, because these products do not bombard the lungs with smoke, lifelong smokeless tobacco users have no higher risk of lung disease than non-users of tobacco.

The ANTZ have purposely chosen to test for nicotine so that they can continue their campaign of demonization of tobacco companies, tobacco products, and tobacco users. (Yes, I know that they call it "denormalization", but that is not a real word, except when discussing database management.)

Their hatred of tobacco companies outweighs their compassion for the health and well-being of tobacco and nicotine consumers.

I have a sad story.
Few years ago (I was a smoker back then) my dad had a surgery and I was staying with him at a hospital. About 2am I went for a smoke, to a bus stop about 1/4 mile away from the hospital entrance, closest place were you could legally smoke. It was cold, sleet on the ground, rain, the whole thing. I heard squeeking and saw an elderly man in a hospital gown, with his details hanging out in the wind, pushing his IV stand to the bus stop to have a smoke. He was smoking right next to the sign "no smoking past this point, this hospital promotes a healthy non-smoking environment for its patients".
