Hot atomizers

Is it common for your atomizer to become hotter than normal when using your pv while low on juice/empty? I feel like i know when my cart. is out of liquid when, obviously it tastes bad but also when my atty gets much hotter than normal. I'm not saying its "burn your fingerprints off" hot but definitely more than warm. Any thoughts?

mine gets hot. really hot but not too hot to touch. some say that's bad and can kill your atty, but I've never had a problem. best advice is to have two e-cigs going at once and switch out (this only works if you have a spare on the charger).
