Hot Cartos

Three weeks vaping andtotally on board-I know there's probably a thread for this, but a quick answer would be nice! I use cartos, both prefilled & blanks I fill myself, and sometimes they get HOT to the point of almost burning my lips. Is that an indication that I'm drawing too hard, or need to add more juice, or is that normal?

It would help if you said what cartos, and if they come in multiple ohms values, what ohms

You buy low ohms, they get hot. Some have ohm ratings. And at Vapor4Life WOW cartos are the hotter lower ohms ones and Coolcarts are the cooler higher ohms ones.

If stuffing-type kr808D-1 or 510 or 901 cartos get too hot, use a plastic or delrin driptip as a mouthpiece. I get mine at LitecigUSA.net. Don't get those fancy swirl aka twist drip tips - their o-ring sticks out too much to fit in a carto.

And if you just don't want such hot cartos, buy higher ohm cartos.

If your carto was not too hot and then gets too hot, it may need juice

And note - in case you are, you should not be using anything lower than 2.5 ohms on a slim battery

All cartos will get hot if you power vape. Try giving them a minute between hits to let them cool down or like RIMP said, get a delrin drip tip.

Ms. Konalady there can be many reasons why the carto gets hot. If you're chain vaping, not enough juice, too much voltage with a low ohm rating, etc. A good way to avoid the burnt lips is get a delrin drip tip. They won't transfer the heat from the carto like aluminum ones will. Hope this helps.

I'm using V4L cool carts, with basic batteries & pass thru, still get hot. I guess I need a driptip? Thanks for the information, I didn't realize finding my perfect vapor system would be so time consuming! Appreciate all the advice!

Yes stick a delrin or plastic drip tip on the carto instead of the endcap if the carto gets too hot for your lips. I get mine at LitecigUSA.net

Delrin upper left and and scroll down below the aluminum ones to see the clear colored plastic ones.

Don't drip in it - the juice would aim right for the central air channel.

Konalady, I had the same problem with cartos burning my lips ... that metal just got too hot ... but the drip tip completely solve that problem. AND they're cheap. (I think SOME ladies just have softer, more sensitive lips ... ... that's what I prefer to think, anyway)

And note - as a carto gets reused, it will get less hot because the stuffing and internal coil will get a bit gunked up and it will vaporized less efficiently.

More stealth solution - cut a small circle out of the middle of the round end of a carto condom and put the condom on the mouth end of the carto. The hole will let you drag the vapor and the silicone will protect your lips. I did this first before I started using a drip tip on the end. Then I liked the smaller mouth size and wide vapor path of the drip tips.

But metal cartos can get hot - it's like putting your mouth on an atomizer. And some are a bit hotter than others - the ohms vary somewhat even within the same kind. You could also have a defective carto that is a lot hotter. Did you try another to see if it gets as hot?

And note - the drip tip solution is for standard metal and stuffing cartos. Somewhere recommended against a drip tip on dual coils. And plastic cartos so far have needed their own kind of drip tip aka mouthpiece because normal ones would crack them.

Just a side note..I ordered 3 different kinds of drip tips and the Delrin are the only ones that fit properly.

Wow! Where have I been. I always thought drip tips were well... for people who dripped. I had one here and put it on a carto that was getting hot. The vapor hit was awesome. Will be using them from now on.

Thanks dormouse, cutting a hole in the condom is brilliant! I did order driptips, but the condom solution works great. I had considered that before, but couldn't figure out an easy way to do it. It took me all of 30 secs to figure out a good system, it'll also be a good way to let interested people test my ecig (with a clean condom). Mahalo!

You may want to switch between two cartomizers periodically to give them a rest. I do this every other hour and it seems to mellow the flavor.

Personal opinion of course, but not using a delrin/plastic drip tip is lip cancer looking for a place to happen.

I had the exact same problem to the point of actually causing a fever blister on my lip because of it. Thanks to Jackiej5407 for suggesting the drip tip!! I had one on hand and used it and problem solved. I'm getting ready to order some more drip tips tonight. Thanks for the thread some really great tips here!!

Slap on a drip tip...you're hot boxing it...LOL. I do it all the time but use a DT, your lips will love you for it.

I got one clear colored plastic one that was too tight for my cartos but the rest were all fine (from LiteCigUSA.net) and I have bought 6 of them (poor green - I still don't own green). And I use my one black delrin on a KR8 carto (V4L WOW carto).

And from elsewhere 4 of those pretty swirl/twist ones that do not fit (o-ring too fat)
