Was reading thru the methods listed for cleaning gunked up attys, and it got me thinking about a couple ways I clean burnt on food from pans......

One way....vinegar and baking soda. When these are mixed they form (i think) carbonic acid that cleans baked on food very well. Have to let it sit for a couple hours usually.

The other way, is water with a bounce fabric sheet. Not sure about this one with regards to something like an atty (since you are inhaling), but with a good rinse afterwards it might work. If you leave a bounce sheet in a pan of water caked with food overnight, it softens the food and becomes easy to clean.

Ok, I tried the vinegar and baking soda on a 510 atty that is gunked up bad enough that the usual hot water rinse wasn't helping much.

I took a small pyrex dish and put maybe 1/2 cup of vinegar in...enough to cover the atty with 1/4 inch or more of vinegar. Then I put in about 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Tip: do this in the sink, it might overflow. I let it sit for 2 hours, then with a tweezers I held the atty under hot water from the tap for 1 minute. Let it dry all day.

It's very clean and draws smooth again. Usually when I just run it under the hot water and then let dry, when I dry burn the atty it smolders as it burns off any gunk. I dry burned this one and nothing burned off.

So, it works. Does it work any better than just plain vinegar? Dunno, I'll have to try it when another atty gets gunked up.

just my 2 cents. I use denture cleaner. i use 510 901 306 attys regular and low res attys and every week to 2 weeks you can see it kinda gunk up a bit. i then soak it in denture cleaner for few hrs then blow them out and let it dry for a bit then start using them again. works great. and the attys are just like new again. and if ya dont have dentures just go to dollar store and grab store brand. they all work regardless of brand.
