how atomizer works?

Just ripped an atomizer to pieces out of curiosity as i wanted to see exactly how it works.

Can someone explain to me how the liquid gets from the cartridge into wick thats in the wire heater coil as in mine there is no visable connection between the two!

Or does the liquid stay in the wire mesh and is heated froma distance?

The liquid just wicks down the steel mesh and onto the fiber that the heating coil is wrapped around, a capillary process. High tech eh?

stupid idea but gives hope for the future as someone will invent one that does a far better job than the generics out there.

You are not paying for advanced technology in these either. I haven't found an atomizer that has anything other than this simple technology, except for disposables.

awesome, I plan to take apart the first one that dies on my too, I really can't wait. Hope you post some pictures though would be useful to have some knowledge of it before i go chopping away with a rotary tool.

Here are the 7 shots of my atomizer being taken apart bit by bit.

Still cant see how the fluid travels to wick that is in the middle of the coiled wire, does it go up the wire itself?

Any thoughts anyone?

the absorbent material is on the outside of the wire.. the wire simply provides the heat..

the wire wool around the little pot gets soaked in fluid.. the fluid moves into the little pot.. the coil gets soaked in the fluid.. it heats up when puffed on and vaporizers the fluid thats soaked into the material around the hot wire coil..

the cartridge isnt really needed only to replenish the liquid thats soaked into the wire wool around the atomizer pot.. as the coil uses up fluid in the pot more moves into the pot to replace it from the wire wool around the pot..

the things work better when the correct amount of liquid is dripped directly onto the wire wool around the atomizer pot.. they come ready primed from the makers..

all very crude and all very hit and miss.. the liquid dosnt pass from the cart to the wire wool in sufficient quanities to feed the absorbent material around the heater coil.. the coil often dosnt get hot enough and the absorbent material around the hot wire cease to be absorbent after xxxx puffs..

the batteries are useless cos they aint big enoiugh and die off pretty quickly..

the devices are not suitable to be used all day and every day to replace a heavy smokers 30 a day type habit..

ruyan didnt design them to do this.. they designd them for occasional use where real smokers couldnt "real" smoke.. used in this way the things work well enough.. used to replace a 30 a day habit they dont work well enough..

the difference between cheaper generics and expensive "brand" names is the price u pay and the "service" u "hope" to get....

being as the things are being miss sold and used for a purpose they are not suitable for the "service" concept isnt practical..

buy cheap and replace often.. or follow the new ruyan lead (throw away cigar) and buy expensive and replace often.. but replace often is the key..

I here you trog but still cant see how the fluid can pass from the wire wool into the pot as there is no connection!

Also the wire coil is wrapped around the wick so if the fluid cant get into that white pot and onto the wick it just aint gonna work properly.

I expected the wick to travel into the wire wool.

its just a little ceramic pot.. it has holes in it.. or most of them do.. the liquid passes thru the holes into the center of the pot.. it all relies on the wire wool around the ceramic pot being pretty wet.. the liquid dosnt have to get into the center of the heater coil.. just get soaked into the wrapping on the outside of the hot wire.. the hot wire sits in the bottom of the ceramic pot.. a mini electric kettle is the best way of describing one..

i have pulled dozens of these things apart.. a short piece of resistor wire wound into a coil.. as current passes thru the resistor wire it get near red hot.. how hot it gets is governed by the length of the coil and the battery voltage

this heats up the fluid in the outside wrapping around the wire.. its all very simple.. u are wrong in thinking the fluid has to somehow get inside the wire coil.. it dosnt..

sometimes with a dead atomizer the wrapping burns off and all u see is the wire.. the first dead ones i took apart looked like blackened lumps of coal..

take a loong totem one apart and the design has changed.. the heater coil is vertical and longer.. it pokes up into the cart wool.. there is no ceramic pot or wire wool.. some heat resistant but absorbent material similar to the stuff that gets put on high current electrical devices surounds the hot vertical wire to stop it buring the nylon wool stuff in the cart..

the loong totem idea seems a better one..

Have a look at picture 6 and 7 trog and you can see the blackened wick with the coil wrapped around it!

So you are sayin that the coil wire should have an outer covering that acts like a wick? if so whats that piece in the coil?

the hot wire is inside all the other stuff.. look at the other side and there is just two wires coming out that go to the battery..

the stuff on the outside is just to hold it all together..

they might differ in exactly how they are made but the principle is the same.. the little hot wire.. the wire is surrounded by some absorbent materials.. this gets fed liquid form the pot.. the pot gets fed liquid from the wire wool.. the wire wool get fed liquid from the cart..

the pot has holes in it.. the atomizer coil simply soaks up liquid from the pot.. sucking (in theory) pulls more liquid into the pot thru the holes in it to repace what the coil vaporizes..

these things are made to seem more high tech than they really are.. there is no atomizer as such.. just that litttle heater coil..

the insides of a pipe.. the big white bit holds the battery.. the metal tube holds the pressure switch and atomizer.. its like a short cigar.. a normal e cig has the pressure switch in the battery..

when u look at the actual size of a mini cig battery its obvious why they dont live long..

Its very hard to believe that someone hasn't designed a better way of transporting the juice into the heater coil!

Until the design improves i am opting to go with the big boys to ensure i can get these things replaced when they malfunction.

Cool pics trog. Man that fiber in the pipe atomizer is toast! For those of you that don't know, they start out white and gradually get darker and darker, until the point where either they aren't absorbing anymore eliquid to be vaporized, or your ecig tastes so burnt you can't use it anymore. When will companies acknowledge the flaw in the current atomizer and move on? Loongtotem has. Janty, care to comment?

loong totem does seem the only ones to have moved on jarvis with atomizer design.. that pipe is about two weeks old and simply gone wimpish.. it should come with two dollar cheap plug in replacement atomizer.. its all it needs.. he he

madness.. designed and sold by idiots.. lots of words come to mind and none of them are very complimentary..

its all because others have simply copied the ruyan design but not the ruyan market.. sold at silly prices with five dollar carts to rich "social" smokers who are guaranteed not to use them much..

and the big boys aint gonna be in business long selling the stuff they are to the people they are at the prices they are....

buy cheap and thow away often.. its the only practical way.. the new sellers know this and dont ofter silly guarantees for a product thats gonna wear out every two weeks.. and the high priced sellers know this.. they just wont admit it..

let me be really cruel here some of these products are sold by fools to fools.. the higher the price the bigger the fools.. both buyer and seller..

The only way forward for me is with the big companies and good guarantees as these things as you say are pretty unreliable.
