Hey!
I've started vaping two days ago and I love it. However, I'm already looking for ways to improve it even more, so I'm asking you what I should do.
I bought an iStick pico and overall I'm pretty happy with it.
I vape directly to lung (DTL?).
I'm looking for an atomizer?, tank? (I'm not too familiar with what is what yet, sorry) that benefits my way of vaping. Also I'd like to get more suitable coils.

Thanks in advance, appreciate it!

The istick pick is pretty good. DL means sub ohm generally.
I'm assuming you want to use cartridges, or are you willing to wrap your own coils? Coil wrapping is lower cost and has much greater flexibility, but it's fussy and requires tools. It becomes a question of what you want.

Do you want giant clouds? Good flavor? A large capacity tank? A small innocuous looking device? A big showy device?

You sound like I did when I started vaping 5 years ago.

Your wanting sub-ohm for DTL vaping. Anything you screw into your mod is an atomizer (atty). Now question, do you want to drip very so many hits? If so you want an RDA, or so you want convince? If so you want a tank. Now...another question, do you want to build your own coils? As someone else commented, building coils is a little fussy (if you get into exotic coils such as aliens, staggered fused claptons, staple coils) but it's hard to beat old single strand coils. I build all kinds of coils but I keep going to single strand coils just cause they are simple, doesn't take long to build and install and wick. You will want to get a coil building g jig (CoilMaster makes a good starter building kit with everything you will need).

Now back to the atty, you can get a RDA for cheap and build your own coils or you can buy pre-made exotic coils and just install them on the deck of your RDA/RTA. A RDA is an atty you build coils for and drip your juice right onto the coils. A RTA is a tank that you make coils for and wick then has a chamber that holds the juice instead of dripping onto the coils. You can't get a better flavor any atty other than dripping. Now if your into a tank that takes per-made coil heads that's an option. I can't stand them because some makers pack the cotton so tight in them it takes forever to break-in a coil head but to each his/her own. I prefer to build my coils and have a 3-5 hit break-in period rather than a couple 5ml tank full of juice break-in period.

I would say do a little research first on hardware. Decide wether you want a RDA, RTA or a tank that comes with pre-made coil heads. Once you have an idea of what you want, go to YouTube and start watching reviews on different hardware and make your decision based on what you think you want and what you think your vaping style will be. You will sink some $ into this, especially if you turn it into a hobby like a lot of us has. Then next will be the mod...lol. You can spend upwards of $400isb on a mod just by itself. I build my own mods to cut down on that price. I'll attach a pic of my latest mod (lipo battery with high mAh. I can vape in this battery for 2 days on a single charge easy). It's standing beside a 120ml bottle of juice (I make my own juice..DIY) and a 30 oz Yeti for size comparison. I have a 41mm 25ml Voltrove sitting on top (massive but I can go a full day or so on 1 tank full of juice. I vape anywhere between 10-20ml of juice a day). Oh, BTW, that's while vaping on a .5 dual coil build and vaping at 11.5V which comes out to be right at 243W so I have a hard hitting, long lasting mod/battery combo along with a long lasting tank.

I think I have plugged you full of a little bit of info. Your cheapest mod/tank and juice combo will be the first one you get. Next is a spiral of mods, attys, wire and $ into the world of hobby vaping...lol. Enjoy and if you have any questions, just plug it in here on ECF and you will get answers. Welcome to the start of the rest of your smokeless life!

Edit: I forgot to add the pic I mentioned. Here it is.

He's a good friend of mine, and I've seen and held that tank. It IS a beast, to say the least. It's downright heavy, too...even empty.
I'm surprised it doesn't need a tripod to build on![emoji1]

Lol yeah it's big and heavy. As @JCinFLA says it's heavy even when it's empty!

atm i posses 3 tanks which do dtl (one doing mtl too)
Aspire Triton 2
Smok big baby beast
Freemax Fat Scylla Sv

Out of the 3 i'd say aspire takes the cake for versatility has both a mtl coil and dtl coil in the box
my scylla imo has the best taste of the 3 with default .5 coil
the big baby is the overall champ tbh it's pretty much in the middle for taste to vapor production ratio (if you can say it like that) but it's biggest pro is the cloud production, specially since i started using the rba base in it.

Tank choices are subjective though, everyone has different taste and likes different things.

Imho someone advised you fairly well on your initial purchases. There are things that will work better at different aspects, but only fractionally unless you want to start coil wrapping, I'd say you're more or less done.

I am not a DL vaper but I will agree that you should check out the RTA/RDA section and read some threads about various tanks, and what people like about them. There are some great rebuildable tanks and some great drop in coil tanks for DL and big clouds if that is what you are seeking. If you want more flavor, rebuildable tanks might be your answer. If you want more vapor production, many people on the forum are very happy with Smok tanks, and they offer the convenience of drop in coils. Other manufacturers also make some reasonably priced and likeable sub0hm tanks. I'd say do a bit of research, maybe select a drop in DL tank that you think might suit you and a RTA that you think you may like (if you want to do the initial startup cost of getting a kit to build coils and coiling, but which will save you money in the long run. DL/sub0hm coils aren't cheap, but they do tend to last longer, they have to due to the volume of juice that passes through them. If it's a rebuildable tank and your wick gets tired out, you can just burn the coil you made, and re-wick it for quite some time, and cotton and wire are very cheap. It depends if you want to build that skill set or not.

I enjoy DIY juices and find the process very easy, and save money that way. I am not so good with coils.... :)

Best of luck!

Anna
