How can the wick not burn with a coil wrapped around it?

I got an EVOD and I think the principle is pretty awesome. Flow juice through a wick that goes through a coil and voila, no more cigarettes. Genius.

Now, I'm a curious guy. I'm wondering how can this work and not burn the wick?

Is it because the stock EVOD wicks have a higher burn temperature tolerance than the juice's boiling point?

What about vapers using cotton balls and other material to make wicks? Do they take this into account?

My wicks are consistently clean and most of the time they have no serious trace of burning and considering they spend their time being heated up to boiling point by an electrical coil that can glow red hot it makes me wonder how that is possible.

Without specifics I can say it works on the principle of evaporation. When a liquid changes form into a gas it consumes an amazing amout of heat in the process. If you watch videos of people firing their coils with and without juice you can see an unjuiced coil glows red, whereas a (properly) juiced coil should not.

What happens is the heat energy of the coil is captured by the phase change of the juice from liquid to gas. That keeps the temperature of the coil and wick from rising high enough to burn cotton.

The temperature of a coil with no liquid on it continues to rise until it glows red. The temperature of a coil with juice on it never goes that high.

Works just like the coolent in the radiator keeps an engine from burning up. It's called "thermal dynamics".

Most use silica, which burns at a much higher temperature than what any mod and coil combination can create.

As for cotton users; we keep our wicks saturated and rewet them BEFORE they go dry (flavor tends to go down significantly and we get a slight cotton taste). We also change our wicks more often than those who use silica. I swap mine every 2-4 days.

You can actually put a torch to silica wick and it won't burn, just FYI

    Two Words: Heat Exchange

As long as there is a Medium (e-Liquid) for the Heat of the Coil to Dissipate to, the Flammable Wick will not Burn. But if the Medium is No Longer Present, you Run Dry on e-Liquid, then it is Torch City.
