Hello all. I've been lurking around this board for about a week researching options on switching to e-cig's & the information you have here is so great, I had to register. :)

Anyway, I took the plunge this morning & placed an order to start both myself & my husband out. I wanted to post what I ordered to see what you guys think of what I ordered.

2 Joye 510 starter kits with the following in each kit
2 x Atomizers
2 x Manual batteries with Red LED
1 x English manual
1 x Battery charger
1 x 5 pack of cartridges (USA mix or Menthol)

I also ordered:
4 additional Joye 510 auto batteries
2 additional atomizers
4 pks. blank catridges
8 pks. pre-filled catridges

My husband knows a bit about filling the blanks & will be starting soon. (reason why I didn't order any of the juice, cleaner, etc.)

So, how did I do?

Sounds pretty good to me. Here's my only *hmmm*.....

• once you start refilling you'll find that you won't need quite so many spare cartridges
• you must be super careful when refilling if you are using auto batteries because any moisture that gets inside can kill them
• you'll want some juice right away because the juice that comes in the carts has a hard time wicking and will need to be topped off quite often. Also, you may need a few drops of juice to prime your atomizer with just to start out (if your cart goes dry).
• most vapers use about 2-3ml per day average, your cartridges hold 0.5ml - so you may use up to 6 carts per day (each) if you aren't topping off.

Good luck! :)

Yeah order juice now! Prefilled carts hardly last at all. In fact they usually won't vape all the way to dry - you should be topping them off with drops of liquid as needed to keep the upper surface of the stuffing looking just damp (not a puddle). FreedomSmokeUSA has lots of tobacco flavors and other flavors, and Backwoods Brew has a smaller but excellent selection. I usually buy juices with bases like 70pg/30vg and for cartomizers I prefer 80pg/20vg (a bit thinner).

On the manuals you can use a 510 drip tip on the atomizer for testing juices instead of putting the juice in a cart. Helps when you have a bunch of samples to test.

You can also use cartomizers which are popular and the most popular are Boge brand. I love them. Slim 510s need the standard resistance Boge 510 cartos, not the LR ones which can damage slim batteries. Cartomizers occasionally leak a bit onto the end of the battery so I recommend the manual batteries with them too. Just be super careful if you use cartos with the autos. Make absolutely sure a carto is not going to leak before putting it on an auto battery.

Cartos hold more juice than carts and need juice added less often. However they are disposable items (some people succeed in cleaning and drying them). With a thin juice and if kept damp so you don't singe it, a Boge carto should work well for a week or more and they cost about $2 each.

Welcome! Looks like you did fine with your first purchase. You will also find that as you gain experience, the many options available to the 510 will make more sense. I have to agree with other folks too, that you will want to get some juice pretty quickly. Also agree that you will want to try cartomizers sometime soon.

Enjoy!

Whoa - I just noticed. Not enough chargers!! You want to start the day each with at least 2 charged batteries. I also have a charging setup at work.

I use these with my ecig battery charging cables:
Newegg.com - Rosewill 2 Amp 4 Port USB International Traveling Wall Charger RUC-6181 for iPhone/iPod/iPad/MP3

That is 2amp max with 4 USB slots so it can charge 4 batteries at once if you have the cables. If you have a computer at work you could use another cable in a motherboard USB slot to charge a battery. How do you plan to charge at work? Joye 510 batteries are 180mah and last about 1.8 hours of moderate vaping, 3 hours of light vaping.

Welcome to the ECF! I agree that the 510 was a decent way to go. For the price, it's about as good as you can get. I use 510 boge cartomizers on my ego battery. I prefer not having to carry around extra batteries and having to remember which one is charged and which isn't when you have to carry around more than a few. But it's definately good enough to help you kick the habit. But like others have said, juice is a must. That's one part of it that most non-vaporers don't really know that much about. Refilling can cut down on your costs quite dramatically compared to having to buy pre-filled carts all the time. Would be just as expensive as buying regular cigs. The reason I like cartomizers (cartos), is that less parts = less cleaning/less to go wrong. At $1.50 a piece, if one goes bad or needs replaced, it's definately not a big loss compared to the cost of having to buy atomizers and cartridges. Also, not sure if it's been explained or if you know already, a cartomizer replaces the atomizer and cartridge, making it 1 piece instead of having to have 2 pieces.

Good catch! I try to keep at least 2-4 chargers at all times, 1 for home (never leaves the house), 1 for work- plugs right into my pc, 1 for my "kit" in my purse so if I am out & about I can charge at any time. Had a few "OMG! Every single battery dead!!!" moments, so now I like to be extra prepared!

Seems like a lot of people who have been vaping for awhile are still carrying around 3+ batteries to make sure they have enough to last the day. I can't wait for the day when vaping becomes so mainstream that we have vaping stores in every major city. Now we just have "dealerships" if you will, that carry one brand only. Would be nice to see stores that carry some of all types so that we can see the differences and advantages to some over another. I was almost lost to vaping due to the hassle of carrying around extra batteries. I had so many that had different lengths of life left that I couldn't keep up and had to carry around at least 5 batteries and relied heavily on my passthrough while at work. But I wonder if those who are still vaping the small batteries even know about the advantages of different e-cigs.

It sounds like you did fine. I prefer the manual batteries, myself. I've been vaping for almost a year and am still using a Joye 510. Since I don't get out a great deal, swapping out 4 batteries a day doesn't bother me in the least. I always have 3 batteries charged at any given time. We live in the south and if we loose power for a couple of hours, I don't have to worry about it. Also, if I am close to using up all of my batteries, I have an Inverter, so I just plug that into the car and plug up a battery charger unit. That way, I'm covered until the power is restored. :)

lynn,

I'm a noob and won't pretend to tell anyone anything yet, but the only thing you did not get that I consider a must have is my e-cigs came with a convenient carrying case that is also a charger. The case itself holds two cartomizers and one battery, and it will charge your batteries I think about four or five times before it (the carrying case) needs re-charging. It's a great thing to have for the car or your purse (ladies) or if your going anywhere like overnight.

Just spotted the case chargers & I think that is the way I'll go for myself. (maybe a usb one as well since I live on my computer...lol) My husband might also like the case for work.

I definitely see this is a work in progress & it'll take me some time to get all the to make my setup complete, but this place has offered so much help, that I don't think it will take long at all.
